“When Bush gets back from G-8, he will be pushing for another try to get it or some semblance of it through for his signature.”

Afraid you are right ... I can’t understand how Pres Bush and the WH are so absolutely out of touch with American citizens. The bright side of this is that perhaps he will let it go, as he did the Social Security program he advocated when his approval ratings were considerably higher and he had some political capital to work with.

the headline left out Bunning .. so it’s five. And the only reason Sessions isn’t in the heroes list, which he should head, is because he voted properly in the first instance. Sessions has become my ultimate Senate hero.

Precisely. This bill was doomed well before the Dorgan escape hatch presented itself.

I don’t share your view of the matter.

Rather, it appears to me that the defeat of the Immigration Bill is a victory of labor over business, with both sides having both Republican and Democratic warriors. Of course there are some honest business people on labor’s side, just as there are some crooked labor interests on business’ side. The Senate voting supports my view.

Bush has always been an open borders guy. Many, on the Right, seem to have developed amnesia relative to this issue.

My point addressed the tactics only.

I emailed Cornyn and mentioned specific details so that he knew that members of his constituency were aware of just exactly how far he’d gone to defeat the immigration bill. Kay Bailey Hutchison, our other senator, wasn’t in on this deal, but she did vote against cloture.

Well I saw Dorgan’s floor speech. It was worthy of conservative kudos. If there is an ulterior movtive behind it, I will never know.

But his speech does deserve kudos - that is the scope of my comment.

Well, he put forward the amendment and made the speech. And the Republicans used it to scuttle this abominable bill. So, who won?

What did Burr do? I thought he was behind McCain in this amnesty bill.

I think the WH is in Group Think mentality (see Bay of Pigs analysis in a Psych 101 class)

Martinez is head of the RNC.
GWBush wants Amnesty at all costs.

There is no contact with the real world.
THere is nobody with contact outside the country club in the real world. They are truly lost inside the betlway.

A Mad Hatter’s Immigration Tea Party.

The Founding Fathers won this round.

Bush, the RNC, La Raza, and Democrats lost.

Thank you phone calls made with an addendum......now that we have killed this bill we expect it to stay dead and expect Congress to force the agencies and the President to ENFORCE our immigration laws.
I got through on the first try to all their offices so they need more thank you calls!

The biggest loser, perhaps, is Harry Reid. Wow, He blew it! he had the President Of The United States and at least 7 Senators from the OPPOSITION party {plus the media} lined-up and panting to ramrod this bill through. And he couldn’t deliver. That’s the kind of bungling that could get him replaced as majority leader.

You should have seen Reid’s Whining not my fault speech yesterday.

Mel Martinez’s denial post mortem speech was an embarassment to all republicans, his resignation from the RNC leadership should be demanded now.

In fact we should target his electoral head. First from the RNC leadership THEN in the primary.

Methinks Martinez was made head of the RNC specifically for this purpose. I believe Bush himself truly believes in the goodness of all these illegals who’ve crossed the border, based on the anecdotal evidence of his personal experience in TX. He’s only met nice, hard-working illegals.

President Bush and his family have not had to suffer through what the rest of us do on a daily basis. Same is true for the upper level WH staff and members of Congress and their staffs. Their world is quite different from ours. Unfortunately, we have allowed them, members of the media, and other celebrities to become an elite in our society.

Ultimately, at least for now, the “people” have won. Hats off to Sessions/Cornyn/DeMint/Dole/Enzi and Bunning !

“Texans are a pretty proud bunch, but Cornyn can make us down-right arrogant.”

Cornyn’s a great man. However, my humility is returned when I think of some other Texans of note - Bush 43, Kay Hutchison, and Bush 41.

Proving that any great starter can be converted to a closer! Great save, Jim.
