Pace Ousted?
Fox News

Posted on 06/08/2007 9:40:43 AM PDT by libtoken

Someone said Fox news is reporting that Pace has been fired as the services' chief of staff. Rumor has it that Cheney did the firing.

Roger Hedgecock just reported it too on Rush. No details.

Cheney can’t fire anybody. The VP isn’t in the chain of command. It is possible the President delegated the decision to him, but the action would still be that of the President.

Gates made the move, not sure at whose behest. Waiting for news to pop on the wire.

The Marines have been getting beat up in the news recently and regularly for quite awhile.. he may just be collateral damage .. or ?

US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates(R) shares a light moment with General Peter Pace(L), chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Singapore, 02 June 2007. The legal limbo facing Guantanamo Bay prisoners has deepened after two surprise judicial rulings this week, sparking new calls to tear down the notorious "war on terror" detention camp.(AFP/POOL/File/Romeo Gacad)

Could be collateral damage from Walter Reed.

Times like this make me really hate politics. I thought Pace was a very good spokesman for the military and the country.

I have a hard time believing this. First of all, if it were true, it would fall to Gates to do it. Secondly, unless there was some official misconduct, they would normally just announce his intention to retire and the date.

He’s a relatively new arrival to get heat for Walter Reed, I suspect its more an internal disagreement over policy or lack of support in getting his job done .. just my opine.

I’m sorry to hear it. If I had to choose between firing Pace or Gates, I wouldn’t hesitate to fire Gates. He’s nothing but a useless placeholder.

Someone else said Tony Snow had come on Rush and referred to the firing. Perhaps Pace (or one of his subordinates) made a comment that was not to Cheney’s liking?

True, it is a Friday. Of course, the immigration deal (so-called) seems to have crashed and burned earlier today. Is this a competition for space in the news cycle (that is, a planned firing being moved up to preempt the news)?

Just saw the Fox coverage saying that Gates is going to announce Pace’s “Retirement” which is the way these things are handled.
