Didn’t Pace say something about faggots a while back? Perhaps that’s why.

Gates said his plan had been to renominate Pace, but since Pace had been vice and chief for 6 years, the renom would have been quite contentious and focused on the past, so the nation would not be well-served by the ordeal. He said Pace deserves thanks.

Crap. Any appointment will be contentious. That is no reason to replace the current Chairman.

Takes an iron gut to take orders from this incompetent president...The Bush abuses of the Marine Corps...Faluja on-off-on charade...no pardons for killings in the fog of war...makes Captain Bligh seem less a blighter and Mr. Christian more the hero....

Like many senior officers from the Rumsfeld era, General Pace was a master of telling his bosses what they wanted to hear. His overweaning obsequious behavior might have ingratiated him with Secretary Rumsfeld, but many of us in the Army thought he acted more like a cheerleader, telling politicians what they wanted to hear, rather than the real truth about the necessity for total committment to a war that must be won.

Reading between the lines, the days of the ass kissers are numbered, and the JCS ranks will be filled with warfighting professionals instead of toadies.

Snow is the lapdog of the administration. They tell him what he’s going to say.

I look at the whole thing like a football game.
Don’t you change your players as the game progress?

If Gen. Pace is actually retiring, I shed no tears for him. All of the generals have already made millions in side jobs & contacts. The troops will probly have to purchas a new piece of worthlass gear because of his conections.. Just look at the new boots that the troops had to get after Gen. C.C. Krulack retired..

I saw something earlier this evening about it, and it said something about Pace having to testify about something. I didn’t catch it. Gates came on and said that he would have to withdraw Pace from something, and he deeply regretted it.

It had something to do with him(Pace)having to appear in front of some committee. The people who will be asking a lot of questions from the committee are Democrats like Carl Levin. I’m just wondering if they don’t think Pace will be effective in his job if he has to appear in front of these people. So, I don’t know.

THe Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is not the “spokesman for the military.” He’s the chief uniformed advisor to the President. A big diff.

He was fired because he gave his opinion of non-reproducing-same-sex-activity.

That’s a fool’s answer. It’s just as reasonable to say that he wanted out of the job and said this deliberately

In the interview in Chicago, Pace chose to say what he said. He could have said that the law is the law and he supports the law, but he chose not to. In fact, he said that he knew he was going to get ino trouble with what he was going to say.

To the larger issue, those who say he was canned because of the gay comment are dreaming. The issue with the Dems is the war - they don’t want us to be there, they don’t like the way it’s being run, and they don’t anyone associated with “Rummy’s War.” Pace is just the next person to fall because of it.

Again, because we don’t know what advice he gave to Rummy/Gates vs what they did, we cannot say for sure that Pace shouldn’t have been canned.
