Fredo, never take sides against the family.
Now you’re not a brother, not a friend . . .
you’re nothing to me.

Maybe you should offer your services to the WH. ;)

Also, everything a politician does is "strategy". One should not confuse "strategy" with "strategery". They are two very different things.

To paraphrase, never ascribe to strategery that which can be explained by stupidity. A paraphrase of one of my favorite tag lines... Never ascribe to evil intent that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Who said that, originally?
Anyway, the reason that I am thinking this way is that mere stupidity is not adequate to explain the action. The White House had to know that this thing would go down in flames. They could not possibly be that out of touch.

To paraphrase, never ascribe to strategery that which can be explained by stupidity. You nailed it in the simplest terms. Wonderfully stated.

"Get somewhere close to 80% of Americans to oppose Ted Kennedy" More like "Get somewhere like 84% of Americans to oppose President Bush".

No.
Bush campaigned in 2000 and 2004 on doing exactly something like this, to solve the "immigration" problem "compassionately".
We need to keep a close eye on whether the Dims will try for an AWB renewal. GWB has also campaigned to betray us on assault weapons as well and we should be prepared for it.

This amnesty uproar has at least one positive side. How much have you heard about the surge strategy in Iraq? Exactly. The 1600 pound Amnesty Gorilla trumps the 800 pound Iraq Gorrila, every time.

Bushs comments about those regular folks that opposed the bill showed his true feelings. Plus his comments of a couple years ago referring to the Minutemen as "vigilantes," his refusal to order the borders sealed following the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, and his longtime (and often hostile) opposition to every congressman (especially Tancredo) who's been tough on illegal aliens.
The only "strategery" here is one that has been in employed by transnationalists for quite a while now -- flood America with the third-world with the intent of creating an immense/permanent dependent class.

Was Harriet Myers (sp?) strategery? No. We got a good result because we said NO. Hopefully the same will apply here. I wouldn’t put money on it, but existing law is better than the amnesty plan proposed by the Senate.

Harriet Miers... That’s hitting below the belt.
President Bush has always had a tendency to cronyism.
OTOH, the Miers debacle led to an ignition of the base and the elevation of Roberts to the Supreme Court, which was a very good thing, indeed.

This will end up ripping up more than a few Democrats and RINOs before it is over. I can see a lot of moonbats buying that it is a secret Rovian strategery. Let them stock up on tinfoil.

Plus his comments of a couple years ago referring to the Minutemen as "vigilantes," I remember when he stated such. I was quite taken aback by such a disgusting thing to say. We really need a candidate who will make securing our border a top priority. I know Hunter would do such, I hope Fred increases his toughness on this issue.
