Thanks Fred.
Fred on life, sounds good to me.
“Has Senator Thompson ever made any statement regarding the intervention to save Terri Schiavo? It happened after he left the senate, but the position he takes will be a legitimate test between his dedication to the defense of innocent life and his federalist tendencies.”
Godd question. Please let me know if you find out.
BTTT
Back in 1996, Fred was in favor of over turning Roe, and he favored states passing reasonable restrictions such as parental notification and restrictions on late term abortions. Fred also spoke out against federal funding for abortions. Fred was against the federal government criminalizing abortions, which in reality is something that won't be on the table anytime soon. Romney supporters like to characterize this as pro-choice just as Romney was, but that simply was not the case. Romney spoke out against any restrictions and thought Roe was great law.
I think he always specified that he was against criminalizing the WOMEN. He never mentions anything else, such as going after doctors.
See #28....
“And I think he has to explain much more persuasively than Mitt Romney did why it is that he is now a pro-life. “
HORSE HOCKEY!
Let Romney explain what he said here in this clip from 2002.

Hey RatsDawg...that was the opinion of Terry Jeffrey, a noted conservative that I believe a lot of people respect. If he has questions about Thompson’s abortion positions, it does send up a flag.
Well all Jeffrey has to do is watch this to know why Fred has is 100% pro-life.

wait till he answers about Abortion.
Can you tell me why Newt has sold out to the enviromental crowd?
Yeah, thats the only problem I have with Newt, other than that I think he would be good.
LOL! Well, it's really too early yet for me to be picking a candidate. As I mentioned, I don't think Huckabee has much of a chance to make "the final cut." And there are others that I probably could support (Thompson, Hunter, Romney).
When I said that Huckabee had stolen my heart, what I was referring to was his beautiful and deeply moving speech on the "culture of Love" that he gave at the third GOP debate (IIRC). To make his point, he contrasted America, a culture of love -- given its philosophical and theological roots, and its historical behavior towards other nations suffering from tyranny, poverty, disease -- to that of a culture of death, which is plainly what aggressive, hegemonistic Islamofascism amounts to, and Huckabee said so. It was a wonderfully clarifying moment.
That was the overarching point; but he also made it plain that a culture of love is one that honors, values, cherishes, and protects human life at all its stages, from conception to natural death. He spoke of the millions of innocents lost to abortion, as well as the elderly, alone and abandoned in nursing homes, etc. And he called upon Americans to understand how unique in the world is the culture of love that America has historically nurtured, but which it appears we are moving away from, toward a more pragmatic, utilitarian ethos.
He challenged us Americans to renew ourselves and our society by focusing once more on love and life. He was appealing to "the better angels" of our nature....
Anyhoot, some people are "issues voters." I tend to be a "values and character" voter. I looked at who was standing on the stage with Huckabee, and I thought to myself, in terms of personal character, Huckabee is the "pick of the litter."
I admire him tremendously. Plus he's a musician, and that never hurts! :^)
In the final analysis, Huckabee probably won't be the GOP candidate. But then again, you never know: A lot can happen between now and November 2008, and probably will.
The major candidate I doubt I could ever support is Giuliani. There, it's definitely a question of character.... He may be a completely competent executive; but I don't feel/think I can trust him.
So there it is.... The next 16 months will be interesting, to say the least!
Sounds good to me!!! Then just make John Bolton Secretary of State, and let the games begin! :^)
I like the Dennis Miller as Press Sec idea ... it’s about time ascerbic wit squelched the smarmy liberals rounding our the WH press corps. (or should that be corpse? Bwahahaha, words can be such fun in English)
“Press corpse” is indeed a fitting term for the gang that covers the White House. Dennis Miller would be a delightful antidote to their smarmy sanctimony and self-important arrogance.
