Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced today that he secured $18 million in additional funding for the Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (ACWA) program at the Blue Grass Army Depot. McConnell’s request was included in the FY’08 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (VA) Appropriations bill.

“This funding will enable further progress to be made towards the safe and timely disposal of the chemical weapons stockpile at the Blue Grass Army Depot,” said McConnell. “The elimination of these dangerous weapons is a top priority for me, and Kentuckians can rest assured that I will fight for this funding until it ends up in Richmond.”

The FY’08 Military Construction and VA bill must now be approved by the full Senate.

Iused to live about 10 miles south of that weapons depot. My mother is still there.

This move will prove popular in the district—most folks are pretty anxious to get rid of all that nerve gas.

My first deer hunt was on that facility. I didn’t shoot anything, but got buck fever and blew the chance of a lifetime to get a huge buck the first time I hunted there.

That place is pretty amazing. We drove out after the hunt past railroad tracks that disappeared into the ground. I imagine this will secure a lot of votes from his district there.

Actually it is Congress finishing what it started several years ago. Unfortunately our weenie Republicans didn’t have the guts to tell the Dems and Enviros to shove it and appropriate the funds a couple of years ago.

He can’t buy his way out of trouble with his own constituents on the immigration bill.

No, we can all say we have a great problem in ridding ourselves of outdated, but lethal, chemical and biological weapons that we acquired for our protection during the cold war.
