Bush Urges Hispanics To Speak Up (New Info and Quotes)
The Washington Times ^ | June 16, 2007 | Steven Dinan

Posted on 06/15/2007 10:05:16 PM PDT by truthkeeper

President Bush yesterday told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from opponents also hear from those who support the bill.

"There's a lot of emotion on this issue, and it makes sense to have people from around the country come and sit down with members of Congress to talk rationally about the issue," he told those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.

He was speaking a day after the bill, which collapsed last week, was revived by the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, agreed to put the bill back on the Senate's schedule next week, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, agreed to limit the number of amendments Republicans would offer.

But roadblocks are already popping up.
Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, said he will block any attempt to send the bill to an eventual House-Senate conference, complicating the usual path a bill takes to reach the president's desk.

"Ted Kennedy has sold us another bill of goods and I don't trust him to make even more changes...

There’s only 108 million Mexicans in Mexico so your numbers seem to be off a little bit!

“President Bush yesterday told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate...”

Why is everyone so upset? He’s just being loyal to his base.

Americans of European descent are a minority in California--as are Californians of Asian, African, and Latino descent (including those of European descent who are also of Latino descent).

Californians of European descent are still easily the plurality, though there have been more births among those of Latino descent than other groups (so, the majority of babies born per year in California are now of Latino descent) recently.

:::sigh::: Bush has done some good things during his Presidency, but he has thrown so much of his credibility behind this stupid bill, it's going to end up overshadowing everything else.

We gotta keep calling and sending a message to our Congress critters - WE DON'T WANT THIS 'IMMIGRATION' BILL!!!!!

"Bush urges white guys Americans to shut up."

There.
Sort of fixed it.

Actually, would have had: Bush panders to illegal aliens.

Do you realize that 13 years into the post-NAFTA era it is still easier for foreign oil companies to do business in Castro's Cuba than it is for them to do business in Mexico because of the "PEMEX Doctrine"....? And they wonder why their economy is going nowhere.

What a f****** joke.

Could you people stop your mudslinging and either get back on topic or off the thread (if you have by the time this is posted, then just ignore)?

Jorge--guessing having not read the article thoroughly--pointed out that those of Latino descent in this country should be able to express their opinion. Americans of all ancestries should. The thing is, as a freeper pointed out, that this is about Bush seeking the opinions of foreigners--non-citizens.

BB223, concurs with a comment that Jorge's belief that naturalized citizens from Latin America (at least in South Florida) is bad and an insult to native born Americans. While Jorge should have removed "most" and put in 'many' in front of "people," he does have a point--again one bolstered by another freeper's comment. Naturalized citizens chose to become American, they didn't attain it automatically by birth. Many naturalized citizens are more loyal than many native-born Americans.

C. Martel comes up out of the blue with an unwarranted insult to Jorge.*

And your commenting has just denigrated into a bunch of insult tossing to and fro.

This is definitely butting in, but guessing that other freepers find this little feud of yours.....off-putting also.

So--just a suggestion, not a moderator, can you all get back on the topic of Bush pandering to illegal aliens?

*Two others had the foresight to just stop commenting to Jorge rather than getting into petty spats.

Looks as though comment 249 was unnecessary....

And one of those two latter freepers didn't have much foresight after all.

Is George Soros communicating through the President via some brain implant?

I think a gigantic cucaracha is wearing the president's body like a "George suit" (see: Men in Black).

I don't think it's just Mexico, though. I think it's the idea that so many of these people have a very strong and mutually agreed to goal (shadow conspiracy or not) that the future lies in globalism.

Shadowy conspriacy, though? Well, what is Skull & Bones, just for starters?

The word for it, two and three hundred years ago, was “merchantilism.”

And that is what we fought the American Revolution to overcome.

“Idiot!! Most hispanics I know, including this one are opposed to amnesty.”

THIS NEEDS TO BE SHOUTED FROM COAST TO COAST!!!

What Bush has failed to comprehend is that Americans of Hispanic ancestry are some of the most livid anti-illegal immigration citizens. And the reason is that illegals have the most impact on those Americans of Hispanic ancestry because they lower the wage scales, take jobs and generally lower the quality of life in the areas that are most populated by Hispanic Americans.

"When the bill returns to the Senate floor, I plan to add $4.4 billion in guaranteed funding -- to be funded by the fees and penalties established by the bill's new programs -- to strengthen border security and speed other important elements of comprehensive reform," Mr. Reid said.

Another lie in a mountain of lies - even this piddling $4.4 billion is NOT dedicated solely to border security -- will anyone be surprised when some of this finds its way into the pockets of La Raza and other "community organizations" under the bill?

You know what. You're right.

I come to these threads with genuine views I think need to be heard, but quickly fall into arguing for the sake of arguing.

The personal attacks and antagonism in these threads end up becoming a form of message board entertainment for me.

I laugh all night while the hot heads call me names.

This is not the kind of character I want to cultivate on FR or anywhere else. This is not the kind of person I want to be.

I apologize to all and I will seriously try to do better.
