The title of Patricia Morgan’s new book, The War Between the State and the Family, is fighting talk. But the British sociologist has a lot of evidence on her side when she alleges that modern governments are engaged in “systematic discrimination against (married) couples in the tax and benefit system.” (62) In the words of her subtitle, she aims to show "How Government Divides and Impoverishes" the family.
She chalks this ill-conceived policy up to an ideological cocktail of feminism, neo-Marxism and radical individualism. The fiscal result throughout the Anglophone world is an expansion of the welfare state and an increase in the overall tax burden. The human result is an increase in unmarried mothers and the marginalisation of men from the family.

A married woman who relies on her husband's income will vote for less taxes (= smaller govt) because otherwise her money is subsidizing the single mom down the street

Therein Kerby Anderson outlines well the sweep and goals of THE NEW WORLD ORDER.
He notes most chillingly how three institutions are under [Qx: WHOLESALE RUTHLESS] attack by the NWO (pp15-25):
1. THE FAMILY
2. THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
3. NATIONAL GOVERNMENT—NATIONS—SOVEREIGN NATIONHOOD (p22) Because each of these institutions are in the way, blocking the NWO.
He cites: Ashley Montagu (p22) “speaking to a group of educators declared that, ‘The American family structure produces mentally ill children.’6 From his perspective, the traditional family that teaches things as loyalty to God and to country is not producing children mentally fit for the global world of the twenty-first century.
(p23) “Not only do globalists oppose the traditional family, [Shrillery’s push for younger and younger compulsary kindgergarten should leap immediately to mind—Qx] but they also believe that the Christian church and a sense of national identity are contrary to their vision.”
“Globalists feel that the Christian church threatens their global program because of its belief in the authority of the Bible. Most other religious systems (as well as liberal Christianity) pose little threat. But Christians who believe in God, in sin, in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone, stand in the way of the globalist vision for a one-world government and a one world religion.”
“Paul Brandwein even went so far as to say that, ‘Any child who believes in God is mentally ill.’7 Belief in a personal God to which we owe allegiance and obedience cannot remain if globalists are to achieve their ultimate vision. (p23)

But why does the State work so hard to destroy intact families?
It seems to me that it is because the State (because of its supporters) wishes to replace the parental role. That is why we are all to be treated as children, and the State is to “share” in the upbringing of real youngsters.
And why do leftists have such a drive for this goal? It is difficult to demonstrate conclusively, but a host of indications point to a disire by leftists who are nominally adults to act out infantile behavior. They need a state to care for themsleves, and being spolied children in their general personality, they even need some authority against whole they can rebel. You cannot accomplish these goals is you are self-sufficient and independent, and caring for others, because then you are a real adult. Many leftists do not want to grow up, but unlike Peter Pan, neither can they fly.

Socialism, which is the system under which the welfare state functions, ruins not only the family but the entire middle class.
When you force equality the level of civilization is lowered because that is the law of averages.
I question this. While what you state can certainly be true in some cases, I believe the majority of the Left's drive towards subordination and dependence is driven -- at its core -- by one of two things:
It is true that most leftists believe in the perfectability of mankind, but this is linked with the idae that we would all be perfect little children if we had the proper parenting, which can only be provide by the State. Only the State can oversome ignorant superstitious custom, in their view.
The lust for power occurs in many forms, and leftism is only one of these.
