Doctor Taped Student Sex Acts, 2 Say (U.S. Naval Academy)
Washington Post ^ | 6/12/07 | Nelson Hernandez

Talk of lewd tapes, hidden cameras, forged documents and blackmail dominated the first courtroom hearing yesterday for a Navy doctor accused of secretly filming U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen having sex in his house.

Two former midshipmen accused Cmdr. Kevin Ronan, who served as a physician for academy athletic teams and as the brigade medical officer, of taping three midshipmen having sex with their girlfriends and four other midshipmen alone and naked.....

Those of you who live outside the area probably don't hear much about this stuff, but in recent years there has been one sex-related scandal after another at the Naval Academy.

As an enlisted man, you get to where you can call anything ‘sir’.

he appeared to look at the camera while having sex with his girlfriend. The ensign said he was watching the television, which was on at the time.

Hope the girlfriend doesn't find out.

It was a little different in submarines. The “O”s had to qualify — and we enlisted guys signed off on ‘em. Made for a different relationship.

As the saying went, one E to another: “Don’t call me ‘sir’, my parents were married!”

I was an E-3 walking back to the barracks from the exchange at the Norfolk NOB. It began to rain and rather than have my glasses get wet, I took them off and stowed them in my jumper pocket.

A pickup truck came down the street and I squintingly made out that the driver was wearing khakis and was probably an officer. Just to be safe, I made the beginnings of a salute.

But the pickup was closing pretty fast, and with the salute three quarters of the way to my brow, I recognized that it was not an officer driving the pickup, but a chief petty officer.

Rather than render a salute, I quickly finished the gesture by scratching my cheek.

The chief, however, was under the full assumption that a salute was being essayed and out of courtesy endeavored to return mine. But then he saw that I was not in fact saluting, and made every effort to terminate his salute-in-progress, the result of which caused him to missteer his pickup and engineer the beginnings of a vehicular mishap.

Quick of response in a dire moment he was, though, and wrested control of the swerving machine sufficient to miss the stationery objects in his erstwhile path and resume a wobbly course down the street.

That Navy has had a tough year period. Between crazy astronaut, fired CO’s of ships, and various other nuts, it has not been the best year. However, we made it through Tailhook and will make it though 2007...

If we compare problems on a “per capita” basis - USNA is probably way low compared to other colleges and universities. Also, the Air Force Academy probably gets a higher rate of sex-related scandals than USNA.

Although I am in Washington State - I follow USNA activities quite closely, since I am a Blue Gold Officer for USNA, and have a son who is a Firstie there. There is definitely a “zero-tolerance” for sexual misconduct - and the campus is probably much safer than other campuses. (The worst misconduct usually occurs when too much drinking occurs, followed by an inability to say No! And the Academy has also toughened up the rules on alcohol consumption!!)

And this problem (sex tapes) has been listed about 3 weeks ago in other venues. Given some preliminary information, I would hold my fire on this one until there is clear proof of either improper conduct by the Commander - or proof of attempted blackmail and improper conduct by a former Mid. I think it could go either way at this time. (Which is why the Navy is keeping fairly quiet. No “Nifongs” here!!)

The Midshipmen should be glad that they’re not Coasties.

The US Coast Guard Academy is on the Banks of the Thames in New London, CT. On hot summer nights, Coast Guard cadets would take their dates to the riverbank to watch the Submarine races (and other nocturnal activities).

Meanwhile, across the river, at the Sub Base in Groton, CT, the submarines were watching back. Many of the boats had night vision periscopes, with closed circuit televisions, so the entire duty section could enjoy the show.

Heh heh heh!

While I was there, there was a rumor going around about the existence of a sex tape that had been filmed in a company officer's office, but my cronies and I were never able to hunt down the tape. Damn.

I could also tell you tales of the goings-on at the homes of sponsors that could fill Penthouse Forum for decades.

This is pretty pervy, though.

My sister lived in an apartment where the tv was bugged so that the men who lived in the apt above them could see and hear what went on in her apt. She found out about it when a roomate brought home some Army intelligence guys who asked to spend the night in her living room. A few days later they came back and wanted to know who was listening to their conversation that night because someone had taken shots at them on the turnpike.

I forgot to mention that the guys above them were low level syndicate members who flew money back and forth to the Bahamas.
