To Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, So Help me God.

That Oath was taken for life, there was no time table, the was no expiration date.

I swore that Oath March 4th 1976.

First off: No Citizenship for Illegals (an article about oaths of office)

Secondly: Taking an oath seriously started early for many of us -

"On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."

Finally: I took my enlistment oath and my officer oath very seriously when I was in the Corps and I expect anyone who takes such an oath to uphold it with integrity.

I might add, soldiers are not to obey unlawful orders. Some day some president might commit treason and try to destroy this nation.

I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.

I swore it on May 15, 1995. I'm not in the Army anymore, but I work for Homeland Security. The oath is the same. I'll be released from it when, as the previous poster said, the Lord calls me home.

As far as I know, we are the only nation on earth that swears to defend an idea instead of a country or king. That idea will not perish before I do.

I joined in 1970 and retired in 1990 and am still serving my beloved Marine Corps.

“When I took the oath upon my enslavement to The Suck(TM) I knew it meant they could toss my dumb ass in jail if I failed to follow orders. I joined as a young man running away, not for patriotic reasons. Good thing too. As I’ve grown up I have come to realize that as often as not, the people in power care *&^%-all about military personnel, let alone the welfare or desires of the citizens.

I feel I’ve been released from my oath. You can take that at face value.

You never believed in that oath or its meaning in the first place....can’t “lose” what you never HAD...!!!

It’s fascinating to see you’ve chosen the name of a fascist to emulate online....???

~~~~~~~~
I took that oath. It meant/means EVERYTHING to me. Did then; does now...!!!
And, I can’t fathom your whining, but if there EVER was a human being who could have turned his back on his country and military service, I qualify more than you could imagine:
~~~~~~~

Now simply because SOME people presume this country’s no good and that oath means nothing, never meant to ME that I had to follow suit. My fight for my rights has been LONG & HARD....harder than anything you could ever bear.

You’re no great loss to the American Military....wouldn’t want YOU standing man overboard watch anyway....!!!

Good riddance.

“And if you do, is that oath still valid?’

When I was discharged I became no longer bound by it. So in the sense of it being an oath, the answer is no.

You need to flush out your head gear pal.

First of all crack a book, if not for Franco, Spain would have fallen to the commies.

Secondly, the notion of freedom that seems to prevail on this site is often downright laughable. What business is it of anyones if an individual does anything that does not effect anyone else, i.e., gay marriage, drug use, etc.?

Thirdly, I do believe we have the best system so far devised by man to maintain some semblence of order and keep us above a Hobsian existence. But I also find it more than a little disheartening that that’s the best we can do.

Lastly, our recent and current crop of self-interested elected miscreants are in a race to legislate us into a system that we fought for over two hundred years to avoid and destroy. Totalitarianism is alive and well my friend, and it’s new HQ is on the banks of the Potomic.

Homosexuality and illegal drug use are cancers that DO effect our entire society.

“I also find it more than a little disheartening that that’s the best we can do.”

PHONY, through and through....

~~~~~~
“A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” - John Stuart Mill
And, in YOUR case I use the term “man” rather loosely. You are nothing more than a pseudo-sophisticated LEECH....!!!
I’m all broke up.
Here’s a few of our possible post-scripts for your perusal:
“America, it looked good on paper.”
“I’ll give up my guns when they pry my.....oh, crap they’re here...ok... here they are officer.”
“Life, liberty and the pursiut of happiness.”
Not available in all states. Certain terms and conditions apply. More available to elected officals and their families, benficiaries and other assorted cronies.
A leech?
Let’s see, four years USMC, employer, payer of more tax than should ever be allowed, never committed any crime worse than a traffic violation.
I object, your honor!
Timothy McDeath and Lee Harvey Oswald were “veterans” as well.
I’m simply going by YOUR description.
NO ONE forced you to admit your worthlessness.
Besides leeches have a useful purpose in certain medical procedures.
~~~~~~~

Oh, and I don’t “need” a book on Franco.....as I was IN Spain when he was still in power....he was a fascist, plain and simple.

You are just simple.
