SMITH & WESSON POSTS RECORD ANNUAL SALES, PROFIT

Smith & Wesson (NASDAQ:SWHC) on Thursday reported net product sales increased 48.8 percent and firearm sales increased more than 50 percent in fiscal 2007. Profits also rose significantly, increasing 41 percent from the previous year. In the fourth quarter, sales were a record $82.6 million, a 59.3 percent increase from the same period in 2006. It was the company's 10th consecutive quarter of double-digit sales growth. The gun maker's stock on Friday jumped $1.24 to close at $16.15. It continued upward again today, rising 37 cents to close at $16.46. A "BusinessWeek" story examines how the company "blew away Wall Street" last week and how it continues to boost sales by double digits.

Nice comeback.

Gun sales are off the charts, I'm sure to the dismay of the Bloombergs of the country. Firearms training licensing and concealed carry classes at the Gun Owners Action League in Massachusetts -- Massachusetts! -- are booked-up a year ahead.

At my gun club we used to do CCW training about every six to eight weeks and have 15-25 in the class. We now run them monthly with a solid thirty every time.

S & W made some very good firearms before their "Deal with the Devil".

Hopefully the "new owners" have decided that making quality firearms is more important than making deals with anti-gun politicians.

It probably wasnt hard to beat last years numbers after that polical debacle. I’m not ready to forgive though which is a shame cause S&W is a legend.

I'm sure if the state of New Jersey ever planned on issuing another concealed carry permit to a non law enforcement officer ever again, then my gun club would be booked up too.

Unfortunately I live in arguably the most anti-gun state in the union.

And now it looks like we're going on a statewide 1 gun a month rule to punish collectors, and we'll be banning the .50 caliber rifle, and Internet ammunition sales.

In a way I'm glad the rest of the country is seeing how committed our politicians are to doing what they want instead of what's best for the people with this immigration bill. In New Jersey, every day is like that. We can scream till we're blue in the face and they still will do exactly what they please with no regard for the people.

Personally I think it's the main reason they want us disarmed.

Remember the “Hilary Panic of 94”?

The Hilary panic of 07 has already begun. The ammunition manufacturers are sold out for the remainder of the year and it no longer relates to the war. Once the current retail inventories are cleaned out, things are going to be hard to find - or very high priced.

The informed populace understands it must become armed before the start of the Second American Revolution.

Congress is currently supplying massive amounts of motivation.

But we live “in the states”.

If NJ was every to really drop the fist on its sheeple, the adjacent states would send in ammo and support the few defenders left in NJ.

We gotta really worry the day the whole country becomes live NJ.

They're under new management. The schlubs who made the deal are out on their butts.

I strongly believe that is the reason for the obsession of the Leftists to take away our guns.

"Congress is currently supplying massive amounts of motivation."

Excellent.

Don't forget to buy lots of ammo. There's nothing in the Constitution about ammo...ammo sales could/will be suspended in any troublesome areas. BLOAT.

Arguably? Yes. I live in Illinois. No concealed carry in any form.

I agree with you. Not a big fan of S&W here. IIRC, our local PD uses 99's as their service weapon and they have had many FTF problems. Last I heard, S&W was offering to swap them out for M&P's.

I happen to prefer the Springfield XD as a "hammer" weapon. I also have been quite impressed with Taurus recently. The 24/7 is a nice piece as well as the PT145 10-shot .45 Auto. But for now, I am waiting for the 809 to hit the street.

Do you have an statewide assault weapons ban which was the model for the clinton ban, and a not yet activated but already on the books requirement for all handguns to use “smart gun “ technology and features as soon as they are invented?

It's not a competition either of us would like to win, but I think it's still arguable.
