This video was put together by Ann Romney. It was shot around Christmas time in 2006 and documents the family meeting that the Romney's had where Mitt asked them how they felt about him running for President. As campaign videos go, this one is quite remarkable. View the video here.
Seems like a remarkable woman. She’s a tremendous asset for him.
How much more self-absorbed can a candidate be? Video taping and then posting a private family meeting on the internet as a campaign aid?
Is there anything this creepily shameless man wouldn’t do to raise his pathetic poll numbers?
I guess not.
Thanks, Reaganesque. I love Ann Romney. She’s so gracious and classy. I love that she has a sense of humor, too—like when she joked she “Fell on Da Butt in Dubuque.”
Mitt fans will also enjoy this from the Romney brothers blog at FiveBrothers.MittRomney.com :

We want all of you to send in pictures wearing Mitt Gear. Whether you get a T-shirt, hat or water bottle, wed like to show it off on MittRomney.com. Be creative. Dress up your pets if you want. And then send your pictures to MyPhoto@MittRomney.com. Were putting them up in a special photo album, and well make sure to post some of our favorites on the blog. I have to agree. Using private family moments in a public campaign makes me think the entire thing was planned and seems tawdry.
Given what we do to any candidates family when they run for President, I’d say the complaints - if you can call them that - about the video are pretty thin.
You know at some point somebody will dredge up a ‘incident’ from the 1970’s in an attempt to smear whoever the candidate ends up being, for example. Won’t matter if its a he said she said, the MSM will run with it.
Running for President in this era means giving up any hope of privacy, or any expectations of decency being extended, in short.
Given that, this is a preemptive strike based on what Romney is seeing (how many ‘Mormons Suck articles will we see between now and November, 2008 if he’s the candidate?) currently, and where it will inevitably escalate to before all is said and done.
btw, I’m not supporting Romney.
Back under the bridge, troll.

I don’t understand you guys. Our current GOP frontrunner has children who have publicly refused to campaign for him. Between McCain, Rudy and Thompson, there have been seven marriages. Meanwhile, here’s a guy who has been married for almost 40 years and has raised a wonderful family, and he gets criticized for being proud of them. We’re never going to beat Hillary if personal ethics are taken off the table.
Of course it was planned.....sheesh. You don’t just up and say, oh, about 6 months before announcing that you’re thinking about running for President.....these people have been thinking about it for a LONG time....and preparing.
This should bump his poll numbers from 10% to 10.2%
If he didn't open up his private life, you'd be whining that he should so that you could judge his sense of family, values, etc.
Troll.
Nothing wrong with personal ethics or being proud of your family. What has that to do with taping a private family meeting and then publicly posting it during a campaign? Also, if it was taped because it was thought the video would be useful during a campaign, it really wasn't a private family meeting it was, more or less, a campaign add.
BTW, I don't really think it is much of an issue, I just think it's kind of tacky.
People try to pretend they’ve had a perfect marriage without any challenges. Did you know Ann has MS? As a young husband, that can’t be easy to deal with, but you don’t see Romney patting himself on the back over it.
It’s a huge challenge, and she has spent years of her life living with it quietly, while still raising social awareness and advocating for the disabled.
This is one of these moments your mother said, if you can’t say of any thing nice to say about another say nothing!
LDS are very family oriented and if mom want to share on Father’s Day its alright with me!
I have watched other families of other potential presidents what it would take in their discussion and decision
making.
I just watched a video about Fred that someone posted I did not make unkind remarks or disrupt those folks good feelings! http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/176959.aspx
Now is it Neville72 that is the Troll or me or both of us?
Just checking.
Let us assume that you are correct, that this video is a stagecrafted affair in which the Romneys calculated to exploit their family for political ends, I submit that this proves only that they are more American than the Kennedys who are after all the unofficial American Royal Family because the Kennedys shamelessly lied about virtually every detail of their lives. Do you sense that the Romneys are telling lies or representing something they are not? Do they tell you the Mitt-Romney can speed read when he cannot? Do they tell you that he has written books that he has not written? Do they present him fraudulently as a family man? is all of this done in a slick and left-wing way, or is it straightforward with bad grammar and all?
This is not shameless, this is but the American way.
That is not to say that the Romneys might be entitled to dissemble because the Kennedys also lied through their genetically overgrown teeth, that would be an argument based in Clintonian relativism, but it is fair to say of the Romneys in this video that they have done everything in a good and regular American way.
A viewing of the video leaves one unconvinced that the matter is contrived. If it were not so, they might have corrected the grammar: "daughter-in- laws" to daughters-in-law. Did they selectively edit? Of course they did, why not? But this is quite different from "stagecrafting" rather this is more akin to editing a paper for spelling punctuation and continuity.
The point of the video is to introduce the Romney family to America and it has done so brilliantly.
