"The meaningful issue that needs legislation is that they need to fix all the stuff that they have in place. Social Security, Medicare, Energy policy etc."

They need to figure out how they're going to get 12-20 million illegal immigrants out of my country, not call me names and make them legal.

They have learned that the people no longer have any power over them. Like despots everywhere they can ignore the people that they rule with an iron hand.

It’s time to seriously consider term limits, it’s the only way to remove people like Teddy Kennedy who has been in Congress for over 44 years.

Where am I wrong?

Um, did you actually READ YOUR OWN POST?

Just how exactly do you expect to get term limits with the corrupt & contemptuous despots in there now?

WE, as in US, as in We the People, need to clean house. This requires voting the bastards out and bringing in fresh blood across the board. Very, very few in Congress today are worthy of returning (IMHO).

Now, clearly, the Members of Congress, fearing elections more than anything else, have pretty effectively seized control of the process. Dividing themselves into two teams, which they call "parties", but which the Founders correctly called "factions", they cultivate appeals to the Left in leftish districts and to the right in right-leaning districts, while they in fact, drawn from the same class, graduating from the same schools, marrying the same women, and sharing the same social and cultural presuppositions, have converted themselves into a permanent ruling aristocracy.

Now hold on there, cowboy, let's not go galloping off in all directions. President Washington advised against political factions/parties, but both these parties were, in fact, found during his second term in office.

Thomas Jefferson's (left wing)Republican party, complete with scalding newspaper articles, editorials, and pamphlets. In the twinkling of an eye came the right wing Federalist, headed by Alexander Hamilton, complete with scalding newspaper... Well, you get the idea.

Frankly,IMHO, when all is said and done, the United States has been very lucky to have a two party system -- an example and mind set from Mother England. After all, we could have a multi-party system like, say, Italy ; or a single party state like, say, North Korea.

They are unable to accomplish anything meaningful on any issue.

Congress hasn't been able to accomplish anything meaningful (meaning positive outcome to the electorate) in a couple of centuries. Then again, when 95% of the incumbents who run get re-elected every election why should they?

Congress doesn't fear the voter one iota. We are seeing that clearly displayed in the Senate with this shameful amnesty bill.

How could the confidence ratings be so low when there are so many confidence men - and women - running Congress?
