I wonder if 14 percent of those polled were congressmen. The poll seems skewed pro congress.

Completely to the side - who wants to wager that now on all the punidt shows on the alphabet soup stations we will now see “experts” saying that the people of the country must be ignorant morons for not supporting Congress completely?

This is testament to the fact that neither Republicans nor Democrats have much faith in this Congress. This Congress is a disappointment to most folks.

This is quite an important article, because it challenges our assumptions about the stability of our political system.

The entity referred to as "Congress" is the creature of the sovereign of the United States, it is created by that sovereign, and is changeable at will by the sovereign. So any dysfunction in that body, any failures, especially any "unpopularity" (which is actually impossible in a body which is popularly chosen) must go back to the sovereign.

The sovereign which created "Congress" is, of course, We the People of the United States.

Now, clearly, the Members of Congress, fearing elections more than anything else, have pretty effectively seized control of the process. Dividing themselves into two teams, which they call "parties", but which the Founders correctly called "factions", they cultivate appeals to the Left in leftish districts and to the right in right-leaning districts, while they in fact, drawn from the same class, graduating from the same schools, marrying the same women, and sharing the same social and cultural presuppositions, have converted themselves into a permanent ruling aristocracy.

The fault is not theirs - they are merely doing what the Founders expected they would do.

It is the People of the United States who are failing to perform as expected, and unless they exercise their latent power to disband this gang of criminals and replace them with actual Representatives, they will lose the Liberty for which their ancestors died.

The problem is that the Republicans have no leadership in the House to offer in contrast to Pelosi so there is no way to take advantage of this.

No, the problem is that you still believe in "Republicans" as a meaningful term, designating a group which is in fundamental opposition to the group you call "Democrats".

When it counts, which is to say when it comes to perpetuating the rule of a corrupt, effete, and desacralized aristocracy over the People while preventing the selfsame People from exercising their enormous latent power and authority, they are the same.

It’s time to seriously consider term limits, it’s the only way to remove people like Teddy Kennedy who has been in Congress for over 44 years. Where am I wrong?

You are wrong because term limits does not address the fundamental problem, which is the seizure of control of the electoral process by the ruling aristocracy through education, media, and bribery (legislation).

If Edward Moore Kennedy were term limited, which limit will soon be enforced by a higher power anyway, and nothing else were changed, he would simply be replaced by his son, or his grandson, who would serve another 44 years.

Restoring the Republic is going to take change much more significant than "term limits".

The previous low point for Congress was 18% at several points in the period of time 1991 to 1994.

I am sure you won't hear anyone in the MSM say: "Congressional approval has not been this low since the last time Democrats controlled congress."

Wait till they pass “Immigration Reform”. It will be down to the single digits. But, hey, its okay ‘cause business will keep shoveling the contributions. The figure with over a year to go till the election and enought $$ in the bank they can survive anything. We need to throw all the bums out—we need to drain the swamp. This heresy must not stand!

Good points. I seriously doubt however that the founders ever conceived of Senate campaigns costing millions.

We now have the best Congress money could buy.

And as the very POPULAR Beatles once said, 'money can't buy me love'.

And as our next first lady once said 'I did not have sex with that woman'.

They are also trying to import a large “serf” class from Latin America, which (they think) can be easily manipulated to mitigate rage from a shrinking proportion of White Americans. In reality what might happen is the looting of our treasury, political gridlock (like you’ve never seen before), and the eventual loss of the Southwest.

Good points. I should have said “only practical way” etc.

Term limits is a good place to start restoring the Republic.

I can assure you that if we did not have presidential term limits Bill Clinton would still president.

We now have the best Congress money could buy.

One more twist - it's THEIR money.

What's bought isn't Congress - it's US.

and the eventual loss of the Southwest.

It's not the Southwest they want - too many lizards.

Washington is the prize - and they're so close to permanent control, they can taste it.

The meaningful issue that needs legislation is that they need to fix all the stuff that they have in place. Social Security, Medicare, Energy policy etc.
