I’ve given up hope. If the GOP takes control, it will just be a group I helped to elect ignoring what I want, versus people I voted against ignoring me.

Reid, Pelosi & Company have done a horrible job and disappointed just about everyone in their base.

But if Bush manages to push the amnesty bill down our throats, all bests are off.

As it has been for most of the past six years, the Republicans and Democrats are having a race to the bottom, to see which of them can offend the voters the most. Even if the Republicans settle on a good candidate for POTUS, it won’t save them if they push that wretched amnesty bill through.

This may have meaning for the House, but the Senate is another issue; at least for incumbent Republicans. Far too many are RINOs, and have signed on, along with the President, to this abominable immigration bill. And we Conservatives across America are NOT going to forget. Bye, bye!

While news may be made by the Republicans taking back the House in 2008, the BIG news that year may actually be about the Senate.

Clone Duncan Hunter and it is a done deal even before the elections.

But Republican campaign strategists now believe ... that many seats they lost will be back in Republican hands if they can win back the party's base.

Heh ... no comment.

“....The latest election strategy of the Republicans and the White House is aimed at re-energizing its party’s base which has been eroded by deepening divisions over the war, immigration and runaway spending. In the last two weeks, however, Republicans have been mounting an effective counteroffensive against the Democrats that has had Republican allies cheering.....”

If the Republican party wants to “re-energize” the base, it better declare war on illegral immigrants.

If Bush and his RINO’s pass the Amenesty bill, Real republicans will not show up at the polls or donate time and money.

So they will not win anything.

But Republican campaign strategists now believe last year's wave that swept Democrats to power will not be replicated next year and that many seats they lost will be back in Republican hands if they can win back the party's base.

That's a HUGE "if". If amnesty gets rammed through, game over.

As far as the how this former Republican party base voter is concerned, if I had a car that let me down as much as the GOP, I'd shoot it full of holes, set fire to it, and push it off a cliff.

“Alternative Energy King” Jerry McNierny won against incumbent Richard Pombo here in our district using a LOT of outside money. A former Assemblyman and State Board of Equalization member Dean Andal has thrown his hat into the ring to take back the seat lost by Pombo. He is a conservative and said he will only stay in Congress for a set time (self-imposed term limits). There is hope, after all.

A strong candidate on top of the GOP presidential ticket will help, but I still think net losses in the House & Senate are still more likely.

I think it will be a stalemate for the next 5+ years regardless who wins the White House. Congress will not move either direction and no side will have 60-67 to prevent a filibuster or override a veto.

The latest election strategy of the Republicans and the White House is aimed at re-energizing its party's base which has been eroded by deepening divisions over the war, immigration and runaway spending.

So...the very people responsible for the deep divisions are the ones now talking about wanting to re-energize the base? I suggest that they have already energized the base. Just not in the way or the direction they had intended to.

Hopefully we have a presidential candidate with coattails as well.

Not for a minute did I think ‘06 was a generational shift. Just a message to the bums in office.

Let’s also hope that all of the new Republicans in the next Congress are truly conservative Republicans and not “RINO” Republicans!

I am hopeful that this it true. If it is, the immigration issue is probably the cause.
