Shermy wrote: “Fred’s been silent lately on the Senate’s far-reaching immigration bill, if enacted will start the obliteration of the middle class in America.”

Fred on the immigration bill:

“Is it any wonder that a lot of folks today feel like they’re being sold a phony bill of goods on border security? A ‘comprehensive’ plan doesn’t mean much if the government can’t accomplish one of its most basic responsibilities for its citizens — securing its borders. A nation without secure borders will not long be a sovereign nation.”

“No matter how much lipstick Washington tries to slap onto this legislative pig, it’s not going to win any beauty contests.”

“We should scrap this ‘comprehensive’ immigration bill and the whole debate until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders — or at least made great headway. That would give proponents of the bill a chance to explain why putting illegals in a more favorable position than those who play by the rules is not really amnesty.”

- Fred Thompson, National Review Online, May 17, 2007

That says it all. WTF else do you want him to say?

“That says it all. WTF else do you want him to say?”

Make it a prime part of his ABC radio spots, which reach much more people than a May 17 posting.

Seize the day

If you back Rudy McRomney your ***assumption*** is they have a chance to win......

That’s “amazing”! It’s AMAZING that you would base the election on that ASSumption.

You're doing the very thing you accuse me of doing. None of my posts even mentioned Rudy, McCain, Romney or any cnadidate yet you pull it out of thin air and try to make it sound as though it were fact. The fact is I'm not deciding on anyone on June 21, 2007 and won't for sometime.

And the ‘truth’ is your candidate is not going to win because your candidate gets little of the Republican vote.

That’s a fact. Let’s say it again, your candidate gets very little of the Republican vote and is getting less and less as time rolls by.

You’re delusional. My statement is based on statements Fred and various members of his team have been making for the past six weeks. He’s running, and everyone knows it except for the perpetually stuck on stupid.

I am 100% behind Fred’s bid. He is the only one that might be able to defeat the Clinton machine.

I am mocking you. You are criticizing people about their choice of candidate, a choice that involves assumptions.

I got news for you, every choice has assumptions built in.

Therefore, your commentary is a waste. It serves nothing and nobody.

People subscribed to the Blackstone IPO this evening for $31. They are ***assuming*** the Blackstone stock price will go up. Are you going to criticize them and babble about being amazed that they would assume the stock will go up even though the stock hasn’t started trading yet?

Or you can go back further with that example and criticize them for showing an interest in subscribing to the IPO when it hasn’t even been priced yet.

Your comment about FDT is so asinine it is irritating.

For years on this board we had people telling us we had to line up behind Rudy or McCain because they were the only ones that could win. They were undeclared even though everyone knew they were running. It is not a new phenomenon to support a candidate undeclared, especially when you know it’s only a matter of timing.

Hillary has been running her campaign since she left the W.H. Obama was running at least a year before he declared.

It WAS one of his ABC radio commentaries. In addition to being broadcast to millions on the ABC radio network, the script for that show, “The Immigration Bill: Comprehensive or Incomprehensible?”, was posted on National Review Online, Townhall.com and RealClearPolitics.com. Further, it was discussed on countless blogs, websites and television show discussion panels, and Fred talked about it in a number of interviews.

Hello? Is anyone paying attention?

You know, the Thompson candidacy was born here on Free Republic in 2006. I remember someone here suggesting him as a candidate.

So when his name popped up earlier this year, I was not surprised at all.

Then I stand corrected.

I think Fred has been a dream candidate since he was in the Senate, but yes I believe that FR was the first place I heard his name being kicked around for a run in ‘08.

Fred’s been silent lately on the Senate’s far-reaching immigration bill, if enacted will start the obliteration of the middle class in America.

You're joking, right? You mean you really haven't read Thompson's comments on immigration? If you are seriously concerned, let me allay your concerns - Fred came out in favor of building the fence and enforcing the border long before this bill was introduced. He is a little more open to discussing how we handle the people who are already here, but only after we secure the border.

Of course, if you already know that and just like to stir the pot, feel free to take a long walk off a short pier...

I am not sure I was first, but I wistfully suggested that Fred run sometime in October or November of last year. Others agreed it would be great, but none of us thought there was even a chance he would actually run.

He’s running - he has an exploratory committee and he’s been all over TV, the Internet, and radio.

He’s running, he’s doing it his way, and he’s gonna win. So you better get used to Fred.

Silent? Nice try, but I have to sound the buzzer here.

Obviously, you either haven’t listened to Fred once, or you have, but choose to ignore what he has said.

IOW he’s firmly against the shamnesty bill and says we need to control the borders.

IIRC that’s one thing he really hasn’t commented on.
