A college education for illegal aliens (shaking head in disbelief)
The Washington Times ^ | 06/22/07 | Kris W. Kobach

Posted on 06/22/2007 5:04:44 AM PDT by SE Mom

It's no secret that the Senate immigration bill rewards 12-20 million illegal aliens with immediate amnesty. What is less well known is that the bill also allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public universities, discriminating against U.S. citizens from out of state and law-abiding foreign students.

These provisions are buried deep in the Senate bill. They are part of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act section.

The DREAM Act is a nightmare. It repeals a 1996 federal law that prohibits any state from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens, unless the state also offers in-state tuition rates to all U.S. citizens. On top of that, the DREAM Act offers a fast track to U.S. citizenship for illegal aliens who attend college.

On its own, the DREAM Act never stood a chance of passing — even in the Senate. Every scientific opinion poll on the subject has shown over 70 percent opposition to giving in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens.

Not surprisingly, the DREAM Act languished in committee for five years — until the opportunity arose to hitch it to the Senate's "comprehensive" immigration bill of 2006. Now, Sen. Edward Kennedy and his allies have added it to this year's amnesty bill, too. They know that the only way to slip such bad legislation past the American people is to bury it in a comprehensive bill.

Agreed. That stupid Utahan - Orrin Hatch is the sponsor of this horrid legislation. I have this feeling the DREAM Act is just the tip of what's buried in the sellout bill that's going to come back before the Senate.

It should be noted, that on other campuses, like Berkeley, with large populations of Japanese, Chinese and Indian students, the only group demanding classes taught in other languages are Spanish speaking kids. At least I havent seen any Japanese students demanding anything - they’re usually busy in the library studying.

That is the truth, I had to retake the drivers test once, to many speeding tickets, there were five Asian students there that day taking the drivers test, they all took it in English.

That’s it - I’m applying for illegal alien status for my family!

Cheap, subsidized tuition, no need to save for college!
I’ll go out and buy that corvette I’ve got my eye on!

No, no, the taxpayers didn’t buy the corvette, they just paid for my girls’ college education.

(No, no, tax dollars don’t go to fund abortions at Planned Parenthood, it just goes to pay for their other budget items.)

I do not understand how those who are sworn to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution can use it as toilet paper.

Also that we are not storming the congress and demanding the recall of any senator/congresscritter who actively supports this abomination.

It becomes increasingly apparent with each passing day that the United States Congress no longer represents the will of the true citizens of the United States. Instead they represent the will of themselves, other nations, globalists, and global corporate interests. It is quickly coming a time when we citizens must take the necessary action to wrest control of our government from their corrupt hands and return it to those who will represent our national rights as American citizens. It is time now to begin preparing for a new 21st century tea party. Our national sovereignty and our children’s future freedom hangs in the balance. Apathy will only secure our demise. - OB1

I would like help funding the education I’ve struggled to pay for in the past 7 years! I made 1k/year too much to qualify for grants.......and I’m going to be forced to pay for someone who doesn’t belong here? This is wrong in so many ways!

They want to take away YOUR children's education and award it to people who broke the law. Remember that when you hear the talk illegals should get taxpayer-subsidized education. Whatever happened to putting American citizens FIRST?

I don't know...but I sure had to stand at the back of the line... and I'm not finished yet!

They have changed the standards of getting a college education...in that they believe it is a "right" instead of a "privilege". The minute that happened.....it all went to hell in a handbasket. Minorities get first choice and priority status.....regardless of whether they really want it or not.

What I've witnessed is ....the parents (usually the Moms) will send these kids to college to take advantage of the bennies...but they'll play around, disrupt the dorms and slack off academically... until they flunk out or get thrown out. Those of us that truly want it and struggle for it... get the crumbs from the table....IMHO.

I sat in on and served on peer reviews during the past 7 years....and see the same scenario over and over again. When the education is given away to irresponsible teens... it's a waste of the taxpayer's money.

It’s obvious that our congress and our president don’t give one horse-dropping about the people who built up this country. They have gotten together and decided to give the country away. The whole lot of them needs to be thrown out of office!

That's the worst place to be. "Too rich" to get assistance but "too poor" to afford the burden of taxes, loans, etc.

It is all nice to hear this on freepers but WHO CARES? Just freepers. Who ELSE cares? Most people are stupid. They don’t get it. Have we lost our country? What is it going to take to get our nation back? IS IT POSSIBLE? Talking among ourselves will not accomplish the task at hand. We better hope that more people wake up. If the Dems win in 08 then we are in deep trouble.
