Paul draws nearly 600 after presidential forum

DES MOINES -- The lack of an invitation didn't stop Congressman Ron Paul from crashing the party.

Congressman Paul, R-Texas, was not extended an invitation to speak at Saturday's Iowans for Tax Relief/Iowa Christian Alliance forum at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. But, he spoke to more than 600 supporters less than 100 feet away from a forum that saw six of his fellow GOP candidates address more than 800 at the forum.

As the ITR/ICA forum concluded, Paul was greeted by campaign enthusiasts from Iowa, Tennessee, Florida, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Arizona and all points in between.

The out-of-state supporters flocked upon Des Moines after learning Paul was snubbed by the forum organizers. That move resulted in thousands of emails being sent to organizers, and some of of them in a threatening nature for what those in the Ron Paul Revolution called an injustice.

"I know they did him wrong," said Jim Demoret of Florida. "Dr. Paul is right on every issue. We all have the same goal. Let's restore the republic."

The counts are wrong. I was there. Each row was 20 across and all but a few seats were empty... and there were many dozens standing. At least 1,000+ filled the hall. Granted, some may have been just curious and not committed supporters.

Paul as a single candidate drew more than 6 candidates combined.

Favorite quip from the activists: Responding to accusations of online sock-puppetry, hundreds chanted "We are not just the internet!" -- live and in person.

I like Ron Paul and agree with a lot of what says, But, his candidacy is going to be right up there with Dennis Kocinich.Ron Paul would be a lot more effective working in the house and giving up this Quixotic quest.

Given the extreme unpopularity of the war, Paul is the only Republican with a decent chance of success.

Why would Republicans shoot themselves in the foot and select another uninspiring machine candidate? (Bob Dole redux?)

The Republican Kucinich absurd mania continues, ad nauseum...

Did Paul blame Britain for the recent attempted car bombings?

Since it’s all about votes anyway, why not Paul instead of Thompson. Paul is as much an actor maybe even better than Thompson, what he has going for him is the fact he is NOT a globalist!

My daughter doesn’t follow politics as much as I do, her husband does a little more but neither knew who Paul was
but when I said that Thompson was going to announce he was running my daughter says “you mean that guy from Law and Order” I said yes, she said” OMG I can’t stand him in L&O I would never vote for him”. Neither my Daughter nor SIL knew he had been a Senator at one time so they couldn’t figure out why an old guy who was a poor actor would run for President.

Interesting how the numbers are getting skewed against Dr. Paul. Earlier reports had 600 in attendance at the Fox News brokered event, while they attributed Paul’s attendees at 1000 because of free food. What are they afraid of?

Given the extreme unpopularity of the war

The war isn't unpopular because we fought it, but because Bush and his armchair losers in the Pentagon have fought it like pussies. The answer isn't to turn to someone who is so ignorant of history as to blame America for Muslim terror attacks.

He does not even show up on the polls. I have a lot of respect for 90% of you Libertarians stand for but this Paul thing ain’t gonna happen and I don’t want to spend a lot of time much less money on it.

It is way too early for polls to predict future success. Dark Horses can and do win elections.

Paul is currently polling at 2% — equal to some of the candidates who received invitations to the forum.

You decide who is a serious candidate. Why not pick the best?

Unfortunately your daughter and son in law are representative of a lot of the American people. A lot of people said the same about Ronald Reagan. I find it interesting that when defending Ron Paul you find it necessary to attack Fred Thompson. Thompson’s at the top of all the polls and Paul doesn’t even show up.

He either did, and is a self-consistent moron, or he didn't, and he's a flip-flopper who makes JFnK look stable.

It could have been triple that amount but most of his supporters were too stoned to make it.
