US Steps Up Security Following Attack in Britain

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made appearances on several television talk shows.

He told ABC's This Week program there is no indication of a linkage between the events in Britain and any specific attacks on the United States. "We do not have, at this point, specific, credible intelligence that there is an attack, a particular attack, focused on this country," he said.

But at the same time, speaking on CNN's Late Edition program, Chertoff said U.S. authorities are concerned about the threat of terrorism, especially in the coming months. "We have had a number of al-Qaida leaders quite publicly talking about how they want to carry out their threats against the West. So, given that and given the history that we have had over past summers, with attacks in Britain, I think we were clearly focused on this as a possibility," he said. Full story...

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “THE angry father of an Australian boxing champion arrested in Lebanon for alleged terrorist links has accused radical clerics of brainwashing young Muslims.

Father-of-five Mamdouh Elomar slammed the clerics’ hardline version of Islam, specifically targeting former Liverpool-based preacher Sheik Feiz Mohammed.

Mr Elomar told The Sun-Herald yesterday that he had urged his children to stay away from Sheik Mohammed and the Global Islamic Youth Centre, where he had led prayers.

“Sheiks like Feiz ruin people,” Mr Elomar said from his home in south-west Sydney.

“He is not a sheik; he is brainwashing all these children. I know my religion, so I can tell him when he is wrong, but these kids believe everything he says and think it’s their religion. Someone needs to stop him.

“Today our kids are either at one extreme, partying or using drugs, or at another extreme with their religion. I don’t teach my children to hate non-Muslims. I have taught them to love everyone.”

Mr Elomar’s son Ahmed, 24, nicknamed “Trigger” in boxing circles, was arrested in Lebanon last month with two other Australians, Ibrahim Sabouh and Mohammad Basal, and accused of having links to a terrorist cell in Lebanon. The men have not been charged.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Beirut - Reigning national super flyweight boxing champion Ahmed Elomar is among four Australian Muslims arrested in Lebanon on suspicion of having links to terrorists.

And a second Australian, former Sydney taxi driver Omar Hadba, may have been the owner of a workshop found in the Lebanese city of Tripoli brimming with almost half a tonne of weapons and explosives.

The Australian understands that Lebanese security authorities are also interested in questioning former Sydney-based hardline Muslim cleric Feiz Mohamed, who is linked to Elomar, Hadba and two other men arrested in Tripoli.

The arrests came after Hadba, an Australian Muslim, was arrested last Wednesday and alerted authorities to the other men. Lebanese soldiers arrived at a 3mx4m ( 10ftx13ft) workshop on Saturday afternoon and removed an arsenal of weapons and explosives.

According to a man who rented the adjoining shop, Mohamed Chawk, neighbours were stunned at the number of weapons taken away. “I couldn’t believe that he was involved in all of this,” Chawk said. “But when we saw them open the shop it was packed to the roof with guns. We are talking Kalashnikovs, M16s, sniper rifles, hand guns, masks, rocket-propelled grenades, land mines and grenades. It filled up one military truck to the limit.””

I know and I wish I knew what to do . It almost seems too late . Most people don’t want to hear about it . I have mailed out letters, went to state capitals ,made calls and of course here on web . I am a senior I lived in different America than this one . I was a hard working stay at home mother and grandmother and did without a lot of thigs so I could leave my family a little something , now I can’t even leave them in safety . The future is’nt what I planned for . It is like waking up in the twilight zone after the invasion of the body snatchers . One day i was raising kids, then helping with grandkids while all along my whole world was being destroyed .

Kuwaiti Cleric Imprisoned for Inciting to Jihad Against U.S. Forces in Iraq

Kuwaiti cleric Jaber Al-Jalahma has been sentenced to 21 days in prison for inciting citizens to wage jihad against U.S. forces in Iraq. The Kuwaiti authorities have raised the level of alert at government institutions and oil facilities after an Islamist group called “the Guantanamo Returnees Association” threatened to target these facilities unless Al-Jalahma is released.

“BANGLADESH: CHRISTIANS BEATEN; MOB THREATENS TO BURN HOMES
Muslim neighbors strike converts from Islam with bricks, clubs; extremists say they will kill two.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “DUBLIN, June 28 (Compass Direct News) – Muslim villagers armed with bricks and wooden clubs savagely beat 10 Christian converts in Nilphamari district, Bangladesh, on Tuesday (June 26) and threatened to burn down their homes if they did not leave by today.

The mob gave the Christians an ultimatum on Wednesday (June 27) to leave the village within 24 hours, threatening more beatings along with home burnings; that deadline expired today without incident. Muslim extremists also threatened to kill two Christians.

A human rights advocate working on behalf of the Christians who requested anonymity said he had contacted local police and government officials, including the district commissioner, but “they are very slow to respond.” Police rejected the Christians’ attempt to file a complaint, instead threatening to arrest them for “converting Muslims.”

After receiving news of the beating, the advocate traveled to Durbachari Bhatiapara and Laksmirdanga villages to find that the mob had bound both male and female converts with ropes in their homes and “seriously wounded” them. Several victims required hospital treatment, and one house was destroyed in the attack.

During the beating, one of the believers picked up a phone and called a Christian leader in a nearby town, saying, “They are beating my wife. Why should they beat her? And now they are coming for me!”

Muslim villagers had told the Christians, referring to local authorities, “Nobody will come to save you. We are stronger than they are!” the advocate told Compass.

“Now these believers feel helpless,” he added. “I just visited one of them in hospital, but he was not getting good treatment so I checked him out and tried to admit him to a private clinic, but the clinic is expensive. These people also have no food to eat, so I’m trying to buy rice and lentils for them, but in the current situation it’s dangerous even to carry sacks of rice to their homes.”

The attack came after 42 men and women from Muslim backgrounds were baptized at a local river on June 12.”
