This says that he lived in Cyprus on his own. Didn't I read that he has a wife and 2 kids?

From another thread.

post 8-Missing U.S. Diplomat Found Dead In Cyprus

The body of Lt. Colonel Thomas Mooney, 45, was found near his parked car in a remote mountainous region north-west of the island's capital, Nicosia.

Local media reported that foul play appeared to have been ruled out, but a police spokeswoman said the cause of death would be determined by a post mortem scheduled for later on Monday.

...................

Mooney, whom fellow diplomats described as a "straight up military type," was last seen leaving the embassy compound on Thursday afternoon.

His body was found some yards away from his car which was parked on a dirt track. He was believed to have been dead for several days.

Mooney arrived in Cyprus on June 2006 for what was his second tour of duty on the island in the past five years. He lived in Cyprus on his own.

The American embassy cancelled an Independence Day reception scheduled for Monday evening.

"He just came across as a highly disciplined American official doing his job," one diplomat said.

Wonder what his jail sentence will be?

His TV will have 500 'All-Paris-Hilton-all-the-time' channels.

Kind of reminds me of how David Hasselhof severed an artery in his arm while shaving.

All of these “what ifs” add up to a pile of beans. - Not even that.

The guy was killed, pure and simple.
Name one single thing so far that points to his suicide.

I’m waiting. HINT: - There is nothing.

Look, they don’t want to disturb the number one industry with a high profile murder.

Americans do not stab themselves in the neck to die. - Gunshot - and he had access to firearms - or drugs - and any self respecting American can find any of those anywhere.

And there it is. Right in your face and there is even one person here thinks that an American Diplomat killed himself in Cyprus by stabbing himself in the Neck?! - I have swampland here to sell ... and we could lay off half of the detective force in this country with that type of expertise.

“Dr. Ben Sobel: I thought you were in prison?
Jelly: It would appear not.
Dr. Ben Sobel: How’d you get out?
Jelly: I had a new trial. Turns out that the evidence in the first trial was tainted.
Dr. Ben Sobel: O, I see
Jelly: Anyway, two of the witnesses decided not to testify and the third guy, well, he commited suicide.
Dr. Ben Sobel: How?
Jelly: He stabbed himself in the back four times and threw himself off a bridge.”

ANALYZE THAT 2002

We had a local medical examiner, who is still is worshiped by some, who found “suicide” where a man shot himself several times in the back with bolt action rifle. Also had some other ridiculous findings which were proven wrong.

"How many suicides stab themselves in the neck?! Yeah. I believe that. Uh huh. Sure"

Not saying this was, but believe it or not its not as unheard of.

Unusual suicide caused by a stab wound in the neck.

Despite the incredulity one may experience at the prospect, a number of people have committed suicide by stabbing themselves in the neck.

Following her death he deeply slashed his own neck and survived thanks to immediate medical action.

ALBERT TAYLOR suicide:The police have stated that death was caused by a single stab wound to the neck and have ruled out foul play.

Braunstein stabbed himself repeatedly in neck when arrested for sex attack.

A man committed suicide in his bathroom using a small pocket knife. At the autopsy a total of 92 stab wounds on the forehead, in both temples, the anterior aspect of the neck, the back of the neck, the chest and the sides of the trunk were found.

Don't know how that was ruled as suicide but..

Nero soon found himself abandoned by even his palace attendants. He was led from the city by one of his freedmen, but soldiers quickly found him in the villa where he'd sought refuge. When they came to arrest him, he stabbed himself in the neck

FDA: Illustrative problematic examples include a case classified as a suicide attempt, in which a child slapped herself in the head and a case in which a child stabbed himself in the neck with a pencil, which was classified as an accidental injury.

Police confirmed he had died as a result of a large wound to the neck, but declined to describe it as suicide, which is illegal in Cyprus.

So not only did the poor guy off himself, he broke the law to it? Wonder what his jail sentence will be?

That's a DUMB question. They cant convict him and put him in jail after he killed himself.

He's got diplomatic immunity!

;-)

We’re talking a military guy that had access to other means. Some of the links are questionable, the old guy killed himself because he was ill and a couple were crazy. We’ll find out in the coming days if this guy had mental issues but it doesn’t sound like it.

That's why I said "not saying this was" just that this kind of suicide is not unheard of. ;)

I needed a good laugh. I remember leaning in nursing school that most people that try suicide by slicing their jugular don’t succeed. In order to do it right, one has to have their head down towards their chest, not with chin up as most people think. Putting one's chin up makes the vein harder to access.

I got that but it’s REALLY weird for a military guy to do such. Wonder if we’ll ever get the truth. Meaning was there extenuating circumstances.........blackmail? wife left him? etc.

Wow, that is almost as believable as the guy who slipped in the shower cleaning his guns and shot himself in the back of the head three times.

If I remember correctly, suicide is illegal here too. Those who attempted suicides have criminal records for “murder”.

I could be wrong, but that’s how I remmeber it.
