OH, Oh, how frightening, the U.S. has angered a group of corrupt shysters, the noted allies of the NYTimes.

Especially middle eastern healthcare professionals?

My thought too. The Brits and US compare notes, see similarities in the source, pattern and characteristics of work visa applications and panic--as well they should. Unless there's an adequate vetting system in place (yeah, what are the odds?) the only safe option is to temporarily shut it down.

The notion that this is "revenge" for the failure of the amnesty bill strikes me as highly unlikely. Bureaucrats simply do not move that fast. Someone cut some serious red tape for this one.

Actually this action supports the opponents of the Shamnasty bill! We didn’t believe the provisions, background checks etc. of the Z-visa, could or would be done! Heck they can’t even keep up with their backlog of actual legal applications!

Let me tell you what this is really about...

The powers that be in Washington are holding our immigration policy hostage. They want uncontrolled immigration of poor, helpless, welfare dependents to work in low-wage jobs, and in order to get it, they are playing a political shell game.

They are taking the position that if voters won’t allow them to import welfare dependents, then they aren’t going to allow hardworking skilled professionals in, either. That increases the stakes in the immigration battle, and divides those who have no problem with allowing immigrants in who can support themselves from those of us who oppose immigration of millions of welfare recipients that the taxpayer will have to support.

Or we could hire 35-years-old-and-older white males who have been let go in droves since the late 1980's.

Even at 20 years out of the disciplines, many of them would still run rings around either foreigners OR new US graduates.

Cheers!

These are types of immigrants we generally want here - playing by the rules, employed, professionals, etc.

I'm sure that's what England said when they invited those 10 doctors.

The colleges and universities in there mindless pursuit of “diversity” have done more to ruin the nation than any other intuitions.

Except the Democratic Party, the ACLU (but I repeat myself), and possibly the US Senate (but I repeat myself again).

Putting immigration lawyers out of work?

This can’t be all bad.

In most cases they won't get what they need for math and science in public schools which teach to the lowest common denominator. The curriculum is not aimed at the high performers or to make high performers of the students who are not.

I was alarmed when I found out that our highly rated high school (98% go on to college) was showing movies like "The Little Mermaid" to high school kids when they should have been teaching them.

I began supplementing my daughter's education with summer math, science, reading and writing in elementary school. That doesn't have to be a boring experience for parent or child. if the parent will try to make every experience a learning experience.

Having had a significant experience with outsourced offshore programming talent (I’m an IT manager) I’m here to say that US programmers kick bootie. It’s not at all clear to me that in many circumstances that the Indian programmers I work with are a good value. They’re nice people and all, but their training isn’t up to par with US engineers. Nor will it be in the near future from what I can tell. Its a fact of life that the best programmers/software engineers are 100 times more productive than than the lowest level guys (who sometimes have negative productivity). Corporate America needs a re-think on outsourcing. It is way over-rated IMO.

and the immigration service abruptly withdrew tens of thousands of job-based visas they had offered last month to foreign professionals hoping to become permanent residents in the United States.

Thank goodness - a glimmer of common sense. Frankly, I'm a heck of a lot more worried about these legal "foreign professionals" (aka Muslim "doctors," "computer professionals," etc.) than I am about a bunch of illegal roofers and lettuce pickers.

I was stunned when I saw people here on FR rejoicing when the Feds said they were going to let in more "well educated immigrants." Aside from the fact that these people are a genuine threat to jobs Americans DO want to do, lowering their wages and prestige, they are a grave security threat. I'm sure the UK bombings had something to do with this sudden change of plans.

Being a doctor in Britain pays way better than being a doctor in Pakistan. And being a doctor in the US pays better than that.

“sudden backlog reduction efforts”

The "backlog" would have been reduced to zero if the amnesty bill had gone through. If they couldn't give twenty four hour service amnesty was automatic. Of course that wouldn't have applied to those who are US citizens or otherwise here legally. Only criminal aliens.

And the reason why the visa officials are in a panic is because they bought the liberal myth hook line and sinker that only poor muslims want to blow themselves up, rather than the highly skilled visa applicants.

This is such a huge story that will go over the heads of the MSM because they are blinded by their own lies and myths.

Your analysis is spot on.

I don’t have a problem with continued legal immigration, but I would prefer a moratorium for purposes of fixing the backlog.
