The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) has installed the first-ever automated camera in the US designed to ticket drivers who make "boulevard stops" or slow to a crawl at a stop sign without fully ceasing forward motion. The little-known agency will begin issuing $100 fines next Monday, July 9, at Franklin Canyon in the heart of Los Angeles, located off of Mulholland Drive and at the top of Topanga.

What bothers me about this whole stoplight/camera, stop sign/camera thing,, is that the state feels the need to watch the people with what is becoming an ever larger eyeglass, ready to ticket or fine for the smallest infraction such as now, not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Meanwhile, members of that same government can hide evidence of their crimes in plain sight in their offices, ignore ethics laws and tax laws, drive and wreck their cars while intoxicated, etc. When they are exposed and they are not a conservative, all they need do is step down from a committee or call it an oversight. I think it would be an interesting to investigate the percentage of law breakers there are in congress and in government in general as apposed to the general population. That would be an interesting study.

If you love freedom, you will hate the cameras. That simple. Some dead Greek or Roman said that most people don’t seek freedom, they only seek fair masters. I for one seek freedom. Screw the master!

Absurd. I don’t wait for lights if I’m driving home at 3:00 in the morning and there isn’t another car within 20 miles of me.

Very rarely do any laws apply to those people.

Typical idiot government thinking. I wonder how long before someone uses them for target practice? Bet you could measure their life span in hours, if not minutes.

It’s all about revenue generation, nothing else.
They want to hide behind traffic safety but thats just a cover.

I say that before any more cameras go anywhere, government officials must concent to cameras in their offices, in their cars and computers to monitor their speed. This way, we as the people can be sure that our elected officials are following the laws they write up for our safety.

If we could just convince the Jihadis that the reason we were infidels was the existence of Redlight cameras and photo radar we’d be getting somewhere.............

IMHO, “the elected public servant” should be a temporary job for one of us...open to full public scrutiny and monitoring of behaviour, activity and finances( just as we peons are!!) while in the office....and for some period of time shortly after. The pay while occupied should be outstanding...so as to preclude the natural propensity for dealing under the table.

Look, this thread got a whopping 15 replies. Nobody even cares that the Gubment is doing this stuff. It’s pretty much a hopeless enterprise to try and foment a political backlash against this stuff. But sadly it’s about more than just revenue, it’s about how we see ourselves and our government interacting. We endlessly empower them to interfere with our judgment and our lives.

In 1776 we would be plucking chickens and warming up tar, breaking out our party hats and tracking down public officials.

In my ultra liberal city they seem to be encountering a problem. Fines are getting so expensive and enforcement so widespread that people are actually obeying the laws. I mean you park in the wrong spot and there is parking police swooping in within 20 seconds.

So you think they'd be happy right? Nope the authorities are getting desperate because its getting quite hard to meet their revenue quotas. The police are under pressure to catch a certain number of people, and there are countless police out there.

Another problem is as they have escalated the fee price to make up for falling violations the payment seems to be declining. Overtaxed and underpaid people can't pay 250$ a ticket even if they want to.
