Sen. Vitter Apologizes for Number Showing Up on Phone Records of Alleged Prostitution Ring

WASHINGTON — Louisiana Sen. David Vitter apologized Monday for his telephone number showing up on the old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates, the alleged prostitution ring run in the nation's capital by Deborah Jeane Palfrey.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in a statement.

"Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there --with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way," he wrote.

The acknowledgment from Vitter, a Republican who recently won praise from conservatives for his opposition to the immigration reform bill, comes days after U.S. District Court Judge Gladys Kessler lifted a restraining order, allowing Palfrey, 51, to distribute pages of phone records that she and her attorney said contains up to 15,000 names.

On Monday, she released the numbers on her Web site.

Is it customary for men who visit prostitutes to leave them their phone numbers?

And . . . we seem certain to bring him back for a third term through his bizarre but still popular “wife”.

Years ago there was a Republican senator from Virginia, William Scott, who held a press conference to deny a magazine claim that he was the body’s “dumbest” senator. The Senate is still held by a real dummie named John Warner.

I think the whole escort business between consenting adults should be legalised.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

That's an outrageous, chickens--t response to this situation. The man has four young kids, for God's sake. He's a scumbag, pure and simple. Being a sinner doesn't mean that we condemn others for their offenses, particularly when they are more serious than one's own.

We need to stop accepting this type of conduct, or all you're going to get is more. Any wonder why we read that oral sex has become all the rage amongst younger teens? Thank you, Bill Clinton. We need to roll this back, not accept it or excuse it. Period.

Vitter should resign.

You’ve done anything you’re ashamed of?

I haven't cheated on my wife and four kids, or anything close to it. The man is a moral scumbag who should resign. Why are we all having trouble saying that? Because he's a Republican? Because the DemoRats wouldn't boot Clinton? Please. If we excuse this behavior, we'll just get more of it. So stop with the "we're all sinners" crap and call a spade a spade.

I'm quite frankly disgusted with most of the posts I'm seeing here. I've been around this place since 1997, and I never thought I'd see people excusing adultery.

It took four paragraphs to get to his party affiliation. Of course, I already knew because he took responsibility and didn’t blame anyone.

He's anti-amnesty and is the first Politician to get thrown under the bus.

I don't see a denial from him. He jumped under the bus.

Should it be legalized for a married man? Would in not still be adultary, he is already legally married to his wife, so how can they legalize illicit sex with another woman? -or man?

Get real.

Sin is sin, I did not know God rated it on a scale. This was BEFORE he ran for the senate, he has asked God and his family to forgive him. I do not expect my elected officials to be without sin. I elect them based on their voting record.

What he did in his personal life is less offensive to me than an elected official who runs on a less govt platform then goes to Washington and steals my tax dollars and spends like a drunken sailor. Or one who says he will never support amnesty then goes to Washington and votes for it.

But you holier than thou voters have every right to vote for a candidate based on their personal life, and when you find one that is perfect let us all know who he is.

I've got a question: Does Vitter have a security clearance? If so, was he required to disclose this info to the Feds? And if he is/was indeed required to disclose the info in order to obtain the clearance, did he?

And now that I think about it, one more question: Has Vitter ever submitted to blackmail?

And the possibility of blackmail is just one more reason why character should bloody well count.

"the politicians who vote on the laws should be exemplary in obeying those laws."

Now there's some wishful thinking!

Everybody is a sinner and can err and rep;ent. However, usually the one who accuses hypocrisy is mocking the morals and not the sin. The sin is no big deal.

The BIG difference is Vitter was sorry BEFORE he was caught.

But the headline implies that he was sorry for being caught, what was the entire quote?

Not only that, but why should anyone take the word of a guy who commits adultery with a prostitute for what he told his wife and when?

Sin is sin, I did not know God rated it on a scale.

I believe that God did rate it - let me refresh your memory, it's number SEVEN - Thou shalt not commit adultery. Remember the Ten Commandments?
