Wife of publisher won't retract story on Democrat donor who she claims is a “staunch Republican”
http://www.suntimes.com/news/hunter/469792,CST-NWS-Hunter16.article ^ | 7/16/07 | Jennifer Hunter

I posted this a couple of days ago. Jennifer Hunter of the Sun Times wrote an article claiming a “staunch Republican” was switching to the Democrats. The only problem- the “staunch Republican is a big time personal injury attorney who donated thousands to Dem candidates and a mere pittance to Republicans. I emailed Ms. Hunter (admittedly a snotty missive) and she didn’t respond. I’ve read several blogs where people have claimed to email her but only one actually said she responded. Ms. Hunter is the wife of the Sun Times publisher (John Cruikshank). I have no idea how things work at that paper, but, perhaps, if you’re married to the boss, you don’t have to follow the rules of journalism. We can sit back and watch as the likes of Ms. Hunter write phony articles about non-existent staunch Republicans switching allegiance to the Democrats. Or we can demand an answer. Amazingly, the Sun Times recently featured a front page expose about how Chicago cops are hiding info about policemen who have ten or more civilian complaints against them . The headline reads- “What are they hiding” Well, I’d like to know what Mr Cruikshank and Ms. Hunter are hiding. Let’s find out. jhunter@suntimes.com

She’s a worthless scumbag.

That is, she’s a Democrat working in the media.

Good job. The reporter is claiming he didn't contribute that much to Dems before Dubya.

Well, the money to Klink, Kennedy and Wofford was given well before Dubya.

Oberly is a big trial lawyer in Delaware. I think he's a Dem but I'm not sure. I don't know what he wasrunning for in 1994.

I think it was the latter. I was amazed at how many households had a picture of JFK on the wall. So Teddy gets many votes out of respect for his dead brother. Then there is the seniority thing and his ability to do things for the state, whether or not he actually does anything. People have a hard time letting that go.

Ultimately though the same people in MA would would criticize SC for keeping Strom Thurmond past time or those in WV who demand Robert Carlyle Byrd see nothing out of the ordinary in retaining EMK forever.

Um...not to nitpick but when you post an article, you should post the text from the article. Your opinion can appear below. That is SOP here on the FR.

Those of us who actually knock door to door and listen to real voters know how mixed up some of them really are.

One couple in my precinct claim to be staunch Democrats. But they are also staunch Catholics, including staunchly pro-life. So in 2000 thru 2007 they voted for the most pro-life Republican they could find in the primaries and in other elections when they could find them.

Recently the pro-life Republican Township Committeeman switched to Democrat ... mostly because he ... and most people in the suburb, R and D, are pro-immigration. pro-path-to-legalization. Of course most staunch Catholics around here are pro-path-to-legalization.

But interestingly, the alleged Dems who vote Republican worried that now that the switch-hitter is a Dem, they have assumed that he will switch his position on pro-life and these Dems will not be able to support the guy now a Dem whom they supported as a Republican.
- - - -
In ‘98 primary, massive numbers of social conservatives left the GOP to vote in the Democrat primary. And in ‘92 massive numbers of good government Republicans left the GOP to vote against Democrat Al-The-Pal in the primary.

The professional how-to-campaign schools don’t understand this. They tell conservative students eager to learn politics that the switch hitters are RINOs when in fact just the opposite is true. The switch hitters are the conservatives trying to send a message ... and message that is not getting through to the establishment GOOP.
