Nancy Pelosi to Publish Memoir
BREITBART ^

Posted on 07/19/2007 4:43:32 PM PDT by Sub-Driver

Nancy Pelosi to Publish Memoir Jul 19 07:05 PM US/Eastern NEW YORK (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the California Democrat who this year became the first woman to hold the top spot in the House of Representatives, is writing a memoir, to be released in the summer of 2008 by the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group.

"From my parents' home in Baltimore to representing San Francisco in the Congress, my life has been devoted to family and public service. I look forward to telling my story for my grandchildren and in recognition of the contributions of all women across America," Pelosi said in a statement issued Thursday by Doubleday, a division of Random House, Inc.

The book, currently untitled, will be written with a collaborator "yet to be determined," according to Doubleday. Financial terms were not disclosed. Unlike Senate rules, House rules prohibit members from getting book advances, although they may get royalties.

Pelosi's spokesman, Brendan Daly, said Pelosi has not yet finalized her contract so it's not clear what her royalty deal will be. Before the contract is signed in coming weeks it will be reviewed by the House Ethics Committee.

She hasn't decided what she would do with the royalties, Daly added.

“The Botoxed Auto-Bitchie-ography”

More than likely, it’ll be written by ghost writers who will get stiffed for their fee after they’re done just like her Fat-Ankle-ness Royal Hind-ass did on her books.

Will her “book” be available in a 2-ply, 4-roll package? That’s about the only use I can think for it.

Speaking of memoirs, Tony Dungy’s memoir, Quiet Strength, which debuted July 10, is doing extremely well. It will debut at No. 2 on the New York Times’ hardcover non-fiction list on July 29.

What a remarkable man.

I think these a disguised bribes. She’ll get a multi-million dollar advance. She’ll spend a few hours with a ghost and the book won’t sell enough to cover costs and marketing.

Amen and a gross thought at that. Who would want that in their home.Possibly it could be used in Public Restrooms and other Institutions like The Capital Restrooms.

That's a great inspiration for a practical joke: take books written by Kerry, Bubba, Hitlery, ad nauseam, print the text on toilet paper, and then replace all the rolls in the Congressional bathrooms.

I sell books for extra income on Amazon.com, and because I’m a Book-a-Holic who needs to fund her addiction!

Any book ghost-written by a Liberal loses value faster than a new car once you drive it off the lot!

Obviously, it’s hard to sell books to your constituents who can’t READ in the first place. *Rolleyes*

But books by, say, Ann Coulter or Thomas Sowell and even Rush, keep their value for YEARS after publication.

Go figure. *SMIRK*

did Hillary’s books sell well?

She wrote “It Takes A Village To Raise A Child” and “Living History”. Did she write any others?

I know her books got attention but not sure how well they sold. Not sure how well the paperback versions did after the hardcover printing run was done either.

I'd be the last one to ask what her published "works" are!

Can't give you a definitive answer on how well those sold but I remember reading articles (6-8 months after initial release) about how the "#1 on NYT's Best Seller list" rankings were inflated by the fact the the many distributors were forced to buy hundreds of copies...that never sold. They ended up giving a lot of them away.

Someone with more indepth knowledge....?

Somehow I have a feeling that Nancy (D'Alesandro) Pelosi will not mention that the two D'Alesandro Mayors (her father and brother) were crooked as a dog's hind leg. I don't think she will mention the rape charge against one brother, and public corruption against the other, both being dismissed when key witnesses made themselves scarce.

I have a feeling that those items will not make it into her "memoir." Memories are such variable things, aren't they?

This will be like Ted Kennedy writing his memoirs, though on a smaller scale. Ted comes from a big time family that was corrupt as hell. Nancy comes from a small time hack family that was corrupt as hell. Ted’s life is full of horrifyingly shameful & shockingly criminal conduct which he would have to find ways to ignore in his bio. Nancy’s life is full of routine Democrat corruption that she’ll have to ignore. Ted has succeeded in passing a lot of damaging legislation, which he’d no doubt take credit for since he thinks bad laws are a virtue. Nancy really hasn’t done much legislating despite being in Congress for quite a long time. She’ll have to pad her legislative record a lot, while Ted would be able to boast of drafting destructive bills ranging from the 1965 Immigration Bill to the No Child Left Behind Act. About her only accomplishment is being the first affirmative action woman House speaker.

Maybe she could call her book “Mediocrity for Dummies”.

Did you even read the article before you decided to chime in?

House rules prohibit members from receiving advances. Have you ever heard of Speaker Jim Wright? He authored the "Wrong Amendment" in D-FW. He also got hundreds of thousands of dollars in a book-writing scheme.

He subsequently resigned.

I don’t even buy books for myself. I’m a Library User. I may as well..they’re MY extorted tax dollars at work! ;)

Or if I find a book I just have to have right this minute, I read it and then sell it. I know to some “readers” this is heresy as books are sacred objects, yet to my Capitalistic Little Heart, they’re cash sitting on the bookshelf.

I keep a few favorite cook books for reference and a few gardening books and I will never part with my collection of First Edition Tasha Tudor books and a few antique Bibles I own (one found in a dumpster, fer Pete’s Sake!) but other than that?

Pppfffttt! :)

Didn’t Gingrich get sanctioned for doing that?

No. After the GOP took the House in '94, Gingrich proposed to write a book. He developed a proposal, cleared it through the House ethics committee (Standards of Official Conduct), and put it out for competitive bid by the publishers. I don't recall which publisher won, but the proposed advanced was large.

The dems, who had spent years filing bogus ethics charges against Gingrich, howled that this was corrupt. The media pitched in and created a firestorm. Newt decided the game wasn't worth the candle and gave up the advance. The House subsequently changed its rules to prohibit advances. The Senate did not, which is why Hillary was able to score an even bigger advance a few years later. Hillary's millions, of course, did not raise even a ripple of protest.

I still think Newt made a mistake in giving up the advance. His actions were perfectly proper and were disclosed, reviewed, and approved in advance. The democrat attacks were simply a pack of lies and neither Gingrich nor the GOP gained anything by backing down.
