Bush defends his immigration proposals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.

At a town-hall style meeting, Bush also rebuffed a question about whether he would consider pardoning two Border Patrol agents in prison for the cover-up of the shooting of a drug trafficker in Texas.

"No, I won't make you that promise," Bush told a woman who asked about a possible pardon. Many Republicans in Congress have said the men should not have been convicted and have criticized the federal U.S. attorney for even prosecuting the agents.

"I know it's an emotional issue but people need to look at the facts. These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush. Bush called Sutton a friend.

New line I just heard on Lou Dobbs, to add to Bush’s favorite catch phrase list:

“Man, we’re running out of workers.”

(Said in what looked like town hall, where he was busy continuing to push his amnesty agenda.)

I'm beginning to think Mr. Bush is as dumb as the liberal claimed. I'd rather think that than think he isn't, which would be worse.

I have a feeling that GWB is so committed to the return of the Clintons that he will do all he can to guarantee a Democrat victory in 2008. All the American people “know” to do is vote “D” when a Republican fails.

But they won’t — witness this GWB debacle. And R people will vote only for the establishment favorites. And the other people think they are required to vote D to vote out the R’s.

“Neither reduces the size of government that spends money so wastefully.”

Agreed, spending is costly regardless of how financed, and both parties spent too much. Still ...

The Laffer curve idea has merit. It IS better to tax less and bring in X revenues, than to tax more and bring in X revenues. Our taxes have been reduced and revenues are booming. Democrats would raise taxes, perhaps with no change in revenues once things sort out.

I will grant you that both parties spend too much. But if you look within the parties to find the resistance government spending, I’m confident that you will see that most of the resistance is in the Republican party. Sadly, Republicans lost their way recently. Maybe they learned from their mistake. The Democrats are incorrigible. They are currently trying to take us FAR to the left. Filibusters and and vetoes may provide blessed deadlock. I hope.

In other words you can't support or document your claim that illegals are being put at the front of the line.

It's your opinion about what's going on. Just as I thought.

This is true....

They (the President & administration, RINO'S, most Democrats)...

..hoped to ramrod this through the Senate....end of story.

It didn't happen as planned.

Instead it gave those of us who have ears to hear, and eyes to see....a good idea of what they really have in mind.

Forewarned !!!

....Gives us a small window to head them off at the pass.....as I see it.

"Wrong, but not accountable."

Is there any possibility that you're somewhat misinformed?

I'm familiar with the facts of this case and it sounds to me like you may have fallen for some of the misinformation out there about it.

Alright, since they were convicted of using a gun while committing a crime, can you inform us of what crime they were committing?

I wonder if Sutton was an original Republican. He looks like a former Democrat who latched on to GWB for “upward mobility”, as the sociologists call it. Same was said for Harriet Miers, I believe

I read what someone purported to be Sutton’s background- it was fairly detailed and seemed genuine. Assuming it’s accurate he comes from wealth and upward mobility isn’t something he required.

A Texas Republican family active in politics and business. I suspect he’s what Bush called him, a friend of Bush’s. And he’s helping Bush implement his agenda, which we all know involves open borders.

In Bush’s regime it’s better to be a Mexican drug smuggler than a Mexican-American Border Patrol Agent trying to do your job. One way you go scott free, the other you go to prison. That’s Bush’s true legacy.

Dear Mr. Jorge:

You are, apparently, having problems with understanding my last post. I will rephrase it so you can, hopefully, better understand.

You asked me as follows:

“Who told you illegals are put in front of those waiting in line?”

I NEVER said illegals were “put” in front of the line.

I used the word behest(at the behest of our incompetent leaders)in the sense that they (the illegals) are receiving a de-facto welcome to “cut in line” when our leaders refuse to do their duty (under the Constitution)of protecting the sovereignty of our country by securing our borders and actively discouraging illegal immigration.

You then make the comment:

“It’s your opinion about what’s going on.”

Yes, Mr. Jorge, in view of the above facts it is my strongly held opinion that our leaders are betraying their trust of office as bestowed open them by us — the American people.

Perhaps you have another explanation why they refuse to enforce our immigration laws and protect the borders?

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me and I will answer you to the best of my ability.
