Emails Obtained by Face the State; Conservative Members Concerned
As business leaders prepare to meet here today as part of the highly influential Club 20, they may just be in for a heated debate. E-mails obtained by Face the State reveal the desires of a one liberal member, San Miguel County Commissioner Art Goodtimes, to bypass Club policies and pull the organization away from its traditional focus.
The organization, long active in Colorado politics and seen as the voice for western Colorado business and environmental issues, is convening its committee on agriculture, energy, water, public lands, and natural resources, to discuss some of the most important issues affecting western Colorados economy and geography. Committee meetings are also scheduled later in the month in Gunnison to discuss transportation, tourism and health care.
Goodtimes, who received the prestigious Johnson/Theos Bridgebuilder award from Club 20 in 2005, is the founder of the Club 20 Progressives Caucus, also known as the Pony Tail Caucus. The informal group is made up of members who share the same goals as Goodtimes to exert progressive influence on the group and its policies.
Goodtimes series of e-mails, sent over the past several months to fellow club members associated with the caucus, discuss his goals of bringing Club 20 out of the dark ages, exerting progressive influence, breaking our way into leadership, and usurping the clubs established committee process. Those receiving Goodtimes' e-mails as members of the caucus include state legislators, county commissioners, city council members, and various western Colorado activists.
In an e-mail dated September 7, 2006 Goodtimes explicitly discussed opportunities to bypass Club policies" and transform the organization to reflect his liberal outlook. And in an In a June 6, 2006 e-mail, He calls Club 20 a booster club for industry.

Even a quick look at Goodtimes' ramshackle place outside the tiny town of Norwood, where he's lived for the last 16 years, will tell you that he's not a typical western Colorado county commissioner. Not by a long shot. The yard is hung with handpainted prayer flags, and a collection of skulls, rocks, road signs, and license plates decorates the property. A big orange cat reclines in the yard, and a beat-up red pickup truck painted with white polka dots sits in the driveway, plastered with bumper stickers from long-ago elections. The truck enjoys fifteen minutes of fame in the Telluride mushroom festival parade each year, when the festival's king and queen ride in the back and wave to their subjects.

LOL... Art looks like just the kind of guy I’d want to bring me and mine out of the dark ages, and into the progressive influence,
Thank you.
I got dragged away from my computer.

Why is it that liberal ex-hippie whackos seem to congregate in Colorado’s most beautiful spots? I was in Crested Butte last week, this guy would fit right in there.
The perfect storm :
In the 1960’s and 1970’s lots of hippies fled to safe areas to do drugs without the hassle of police enforcement.
These small towns are easy because they can get themselves elected county sherrif, etc. A small community of a few thousand can get swamped by a few druggies. Also criminals on the run love these towns to hide in. Crested Butte had a recent semi-famous case.
Federal and state drugs laws are not enforced. If the DEA shows up to investigate, leaks from the sheriff office will help the drug dealers flee to Mexico until the heat is gone.
Second step : This group is active in other areas like ‘affordable housing.’ This means the absentee taxpayers who pay sales taxes ( tourists ) do not vote. Thus very cheap housing, health care, ‘free’ buses, free..
Thanks George. I have always wondered about that. Crested Butte is a pit! First time I have been there in summer in a long time. The town definitely looks better with several feet of snow hiding the filth. There was a banner up advertising Tim Worth to be speaking on “Why the UN is our Invaluable Partner” or some such cr*p.
BTW you know all this how?
We use to visit CB some. That was years ago.
Some winters they get tons of snow : notice the second floor ‘front’ doors.
