OMG. What idiocy. Too bad, though, that Arabia has bought off everybody on the globe, we never had a fighting chance.
Oh, hush up.
We're trying to spin here ...
What did Rush say? The last I remember he was against the whole thing.
I knew Bush was doing it for a good reason. He is almost always is looking after our national interest. He loves this country and he tries his best to defend it. I still don’t know what he was trying to do with the immigration bill though. It seems he was trying to expand the worker base so we can compete with China and other emerging countries that are not very democratic but it would have been disasterous.
Keep it quiet will ya..other people are in the middle of a really good rant.
This story has the sound of a totally bogus episode. More likely that the Republican party was offered a huge payoff to just let the deal slide through, and like so many things lately....they screwed up the deal. The CIA is more than capable of collecting like they are talking about and if Bush believed this stuff...then he was totally mislead.
The port itself is pretty amazing. It’s the largest man-made harbor in the world. Deep, wide channel, easy to get in and out of. The volume of traffic is huge. The Navy has regular berths with liberty facilities right there. Nice to have if the threatcon won’t let you leave the port area like the first time I was there. If you can leave, Dubai city is just up the road. Easily the most cosmopolitan city in the Gulf. I’d take Jebel Ali over Bahrain any day.
What are the people like?
Let's see, we'd have received valuable information in return for......operational access to U.S. ports for people in bed with Al Q'aeda?
You're right. And the value of the prospective information arrangement wouldn't have lasted longer than it took this scribbler's assiduity to pop a public story about it, would it?
Anybody think this Reston wannabe would have held off on his story, if he'd found out there was a continuing U.S. intelligence interest in the arrangement he was reporting on?
America won, traitors lost! Blackbird.
BS. This article is complete spin.
Thats right, we can't infiltrate Dubai Ports unless we award them the contracts.
Nuts.

As for me, I’m not sure either way. But I am suspicious of anything coming from the CIA, given their cataclysmic failure on predicting and producing the WMD’s in Iraq.
This is the same CIA of course that is undermining our own government in it’s war on terror by making political leaks like a sieve....
Spin? It was known at the time. DPW offered to put in customs facilities to be manned by U.S. Customs officials at all of its facilities, and then added some huge amount of inspection equipment onto the table when the furor arose.
Even without that, the fuss was demogoguery in overdrive.
They did...but they got completely shouted down.
Your statement is an example of how the demogoguery completely overcame the issue. "Managing our ports" was never even an option put on the table. Well over half the crazy stuff being argued about had nothing to do with what was being suggested, and virtually none of the hysterical tirades.
As for me, Im not sure either way. But I am suspicious of anything coming from the CIA, given their cataclysmic failure on predicting and producing the WMDs in Iraq.
That's what happens when you catch them lying to you. From that point on, you're never going to believe or trust them again.
They lost me somewhere between the Oath of Office and the shamnesty attempts! ;o)
