More feel good liberalism.
I got an old air pistol that’s broke.
Can I get a $C-note?
What a scam.

I was hopeful at first. I thought maybe the churches will subsidizing quality home defense weapons for their parishioners.. sad but not true...
What an excellent way to get rid of "hot" guns. No records and they get melted down.
It amazes me that these people actually believe this is an effective way of combating violence.
“The return of one gun means that an individual has decided that I will no longer participate in the downgrading or the degrading of my community,”
Another ineffective, liberal, feel-good program that will have no impact on crime. Heaven help us if a Democrat gets elected in ‘08.

I think its called aiding and abetting after the fact.
SUCKA!
After all, these folks are engaged in the business of buying firearms. I wonder if the Churches FFL is up to date.

“I was hopeful at first. I thought maybe the churches will subsidizing quality home defense weapons for their parishioners.. sad but not true...”
I know, I thought maybe they were arming their people!
In my city, they had a drive like this. a relative of mine said that everyone dropping off a gun a secretly photographed and the guns were checked to see if they were stolen and tested.
Also,I have heard rumors that war prizes were taken by officers in some depts. But then again, that is a rumor. I hated to see the TV reports of people dropping off Lugars and P38 or a colt 45....
Damn! At first, I had hoped that maybe the churches would be holding a raffle for some nice guns... But if I lived in the area, you can bet that I’d be trying to find any used Jennings pocket pistols to turn in for $100 gift cards!

You found the crimial’s loop hole. No questions asked.
Chicago does’nt prosecute criminals. We don’t mind felons on
the street but we don’t want guns on the street.
More murders per capita than in Iraq.
We need a timeline or an exit strategy on this gun turn in.
Like you, I’m surprised that anyone thinks that the gun buy-back program will decrease crime.
I live near Chicago, and, in that city, it’s illegal for anyone, other than police officers and city council members, to own guns. During four of the last five years, Chicago had more murders than New York and L.A., although those other cities have more people than Chicago. Gang members buy guns in suburbs and take them to Chicago, knowing that the law-abiding people can’t shoot back and defend themselves.
That's probably the reason so many people turned down the money. The gift cards might be traceable to the person when cashed imo.
You mean the city government would lie and keep records of "anonymously" turned in weapons?
Remember Dorothy "The Hat" Tillman waving her .38 around on TV a few years back? Talk about scary...

I guess it would depend on the current meaning of "anonymously". It's hard to keep up nowadays as simple words such as "people" are so ambiguous. :>)
I suspect any decent gun goes home with a cop.
GET of your lazy ATF asses and do your jobs !
