Edwards vows fight against big business

As his Democratic rivals debate whether to talk with leaders of hostile nations, a tough-talking John Edwards told hundreds of people Saturday that he's against negotiating with the big insurance, oil and drug companies that he said are running the American government.

Instead, he pushed for taking on "entrenched interests" with "big change."

"Now, there are some people who believe ... the way to do this is to sit at the table with them and negotiate. I think that is a complete fantasy," he said, standing in front of the Rotary Arts Pavilion in a crowded Henry Law Park.

Big business interests have "rolled over" average citizens for decades, Edwards said in response to questions after his speech.

"They are the power behind what happens in Washington, D.C.," he said. "The only way to change things is to take these people on. You can't negotiate with them. They're not going to give away their power voluntarily. They have to be beaten, and I absolutely believe that."

Before piling into a mini-van with staff for a campaign stop in Laconia, Edwards said insurance and drug companies have prevented universal health care, which he wants to extend, by law, to every American. He also said oil companies have blocked efforts to combat global warming.

Shortly after arriving at the park, where the campaign estimated that 400 people were waiting, the former North Carolina senator addressed the "little controversy" that's been brewing between his party's front-runners in the primary race, Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois.

Seems to be that attorneys have a pretty large big business lobby at work.

Poor John! He is trying sooooo hard to find an issue that anybody cares about, and all he gets is feedback on his haircuts and his large house. If relevance was available on the shelf, Mr. Edwards would be stocking up big time.

Is the hypocrite going to “fight” the democrat party since big business donates plenty of $$$ into their ‘useless rhetoric of pandering to ignoramuses for votes™’ racket?

While conservative republicans have had their problems over the years - liberal democrats and economics is complete insanity. My aged father used to use the analogy that the American economy and business is like a coal fired steam engine, and the big “tax and spend” democrats are the equivalent of someone throwing water on the fire everytime you get up a good head of steam.

Big business scares me not at all. Like everyone else, those who manage and own them are trying to survive and make a buck in a world increasingly dominated by the Nanny State. World history shows time after time it is the state itself—and those such as Edwards who promote it as a cure all—that should be feared. Had our forefathers forseen the mushrooming of confiscating and morally destructive federal and state governments, they would have added freedom from income taxes to the Bill of Rights. I hope Edwards gets the nomination. He will be crushed.

Not only is he lying but he is patronizing his audience at the same time. Yeah, lets quash the engine that has given us one of the best economies in the world. He’s the synthesis of everything bad you can say about lawyers. What an idiot.

Yeah! Let's get rid of big business, paychecks, the economy, and let's all live equally miserable. What a frikin' moron this guy is.

I have heard of the term "fiscal conservtive" but never have I heard the term "fiscal liberal." Democrats promise free stuff to the unproductive from the pocket books of the productive. That's all they know.

That’s it John. Push American businesses overseas. No more problems with polution, equal opportunity claims, fewer lawsuits. Jobs, that would be a problem, although it would help enhance your ‘two Americas’.

Edwards just wants all of us that work for a living to have to make the choice between bread to feed our families or bullets to over throw him once he becomes “King-of-the-World.” Keep talking partner the more you open your mouth the more you look like the mascot of the Democrat party.
