Iraq's prime minister furious as U.S. military takes action
Tension has reached a boiling point between the U.S. military and the government of Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki. The reason: after months of waiting for Al Maliki to act, the U.S. military has taken matters in its own hands to improve the security situation in Iraq.

Probably a rehash of my posting (#5):

"But theres a conundrum here."...
"... the Sunnis as well, and the Kurds, are inclined to think that this is going to be settled, eventually, in an outright civil war, in consequence of which they are very, very unlikely or reluctant, at present, to make major concessions."
IMHO - "reluctant"? - Maybe "not so much" if your position is eroding.
Let's see; in terms of the ability to prevail in a civil war, the Shite (w/Iranian help) currently hold the upper hand. So, the Sunni get arms (and organized military and police) if they fight AQ (as many Sunni now seem to be doing). Now the Sunni become stronger militarily and organizationally. AND, since the Sunni are working with the US to destroy AQ, while Mookie and Iran are giving the US a difficult time, the Sunni move toward the moral high ground. Do the Shite majority really want that to happen?? This situation could lead to loud shouting between Petraeus and the Iraqi (Shite) leadership! /sarc>
The Sunni are finally getting smart! This Petraeus guy is smart!

It’s time for Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki to go. He isn’t making political progress, he can’t hold the government together, and he isn’t the type of ally we wanted.

GWB said he had confidence in Patreus, that is good enough for me.

Where is Bill Gertz living? Did he learned that General Patraeus flatly denied all those stupid lies that there is a tension between him (the US military) and PM Maliki? Since these lies began to be floated by the liberal media almost 10 days ago, many of us knew it was just lies and then General Patreaus confirmed that it was a lie.
With all due respect, but Bill Gertz analysis record is as bad as any liberal analyst, though he is not a liberal. In other words the man is wrong almost 99% of the time.

Spoken like a true Liberal.....with all due respect.

You obviously don’t read this web sight or it’s articles on an ongoing basis or you wouldn’t have made that comment. True you can’t believe EVERYTHING you read or hear but do YOU really have ALL the facts...I don’t think so. Iraq is a complex pile of crap, it IS however right SAMCK DAB in this armpit called the Middle East and it (the surge) just so happens to be working quit well. He (Gertz) also mentioned Iran is threatening to annex by force of numbers, Bahrain....is this 99% false too? Try to be a little more open minded, remember you really don’t know anything.......:)

You are right, I do not know anything. Are you aware that General Patraeus already debunked the story that Bill Gertz is talking about, i.e. Maliki having a fight with Patreus and our military.

As i remember, liberal Dems under Kennedy helped get rid of Diem. Hmmm. Perhaps those thugs are still around and might want to see how this Maliki character uses his vacation time! LOL
To: hardback
Does this story mean the MSM is getting desperately afraid the surge may be working?
