Ex Giuliani Aide: Not Good on Terror
NewsMax ^ | Aug. 6, 2007 | Unattributed

Posted on 08/06/2007 3:15:31 PM PDT by gpapa

The former top antiterrorism aide to Rudolph Giuliani has told the U.K.’s Sunday Telegraph that the presidential hopeful is "a control freak who micro-manages decision, he has a confrontational character trait and picks fights just to score points. He is the last thing this country needs as president right now."

Jerome Hauer, New York's emergency management director from 1996 to 2000, insists that pre-9/11, Giuliani was instrumental in locating the city's crisis control room in the World Trade Centre complex -- even though it was a known terrorist target after the 1993 truck bomb attack there.

Hauer, who now runs a consultancy firm, insists that the former mayor nixed his proposal to locate the emergency command center in Brooklyn -- as he wanted it to be within walking distance of his City Hall offices in Manhattan.

I read somewhere else he never explained the logic of the center being within “walking distance of city hall,” but the only property available under that criterion was the WTC property... owned by a Rudy contributor.

Clinton was a control freak. So was Johnson & Roosevelt.

All Dems, of course, but they had no trouble getting their programs thru Congress. Maybe that’s what’s required.

Let's see, this genius wants the emergency command center across the river via the Brooklyn-midtown tunnel and the BQE.

Actually, the tunnel goes to Queens. And three bridges connect Brooklyn and downtown. Very close and accessible.

Well, there’s not any good place to put your disaster recovery site in Manhattan. If you put it in walking distance, then whatever screws up your primary location would probably screw up your backup. Bank of NY (or maybe Bank of America) had their BCP site four blocks away from their downtown office and they were totally screwed because they weren’t allowed to go to their site.

I worked in the WTC and our disaster recovery site was in our Jersey City offices. My boss was able to get to the location that day by ferry, the PATH train was all screwed up obviously.

And you can walk over the Manhattan & Brooklyn bridges as many thousands of New Yorkers did that day.

“Hauer is a registered Democrat voter who was chosen by the Bush Administration in 2002 to co-ordinate America’s public health preparation for future emergencies, including attacks with weapons of mass destruction.”

And?

Does that mean he’s automagically lying?

I doubt it - others have reported that Rudy wanted the command and control center in the WTC.

This is sooo Rudy's character.

I would have to agree with this guy. Rudy is the wrong person to be in charge. WOT is one issue. WOT has many facets. Bush has taken on one facet, and has disregarded the others.

Rudy would even be worse. An extension +, of one facet, totally disregarding, as Bush has ,our border security and the well being of US citizens, not North Americans.

And?

Does that mean he’s automagically lying?

No. It means that he almost certainly is.

It does absolutely mean that he will attempt to tear down a Republican Presidential candidate in order to elect a Democrat.

I have seen Rudy speak several times (twice in person, the rest on television) and all indicators are that he has yet to reach the learning curve on foreign policy. Saying we must "defend democracy" (Clemenza laughs) and "be tough on terrorists (what else can a semirational person say?) and other such soundbites betray a truly superficial nature, IMHO.

If he gives Fareed Zakaria a call, maybe I'll take him seriously.
