Below is a video of my August 5 open carry incident in New Hampshire. It starts audio-only then the video picks up a minute or two later when our pro photographer runs to the scene.
Basically I'm a liberty activist here; I wear a holstered pistol in public roughly once a week. It's legal in New Hampshire but not that common south of the notches. Cops sometimes ignore, sometimes harass you for doing it. When that happens to me, I don't get angry but use the chance to educate police about the open carry rights of NH citizens.
I was walking 50 yards from my car to the monthly Free Stater meeting at Murphy's Taproom in downtown Manchester. I usually open carry to that meeting.
I was noticed by a state trooper, but I noticed him too and called the Free Staters' emergency hotline before he got to me. In the video you hear my call realtime, as I report my situation and try to explain to our listeners what's happening.
Folks inside the bar also came running out to support me. Police thought it was pre-planned it happened so fast, like they'd been set up or something. But this is just how our guys react when they're nearby. I appreciate the fact that the police were able to maintain calm and respectful demeanor despite some of the anger directed against them by the crowd. But of course look I forward to the day when they don't make such stops in the first place.
Note that I am able to lawfully refuse them when they ask for my "papers" and personal information. If you think this is a better outcome than you'd get where you are now.....move your ass up here and share our freedoms!

Thanks to all who showed support during and after this incident.
Hopefully this video will remind people New Hampshire does allow open carry, that officers here do handle themselves better than in most states, and that the Free Staters are continuing to improve level of support which is available to freedom lovers when police take exception to their responsible exercise of rights.

I lived in Az and its open carry.
Im now in Texas. I sure wish Texas was open carry.
My brother freaked out in Az “why is everyone wearing a gun” he said while deep in cougar and bear country L0L
Very interesting video. Good job knowing your rights and stating them in a respectful manner to the officers.
Good stuff.
My company had a meeting at a nice resort in Tuscon, one August several years ago. I happened to look out my door one day - there walked a mommy bobcat and her cub. I just looked, and looked around very carefully when I had to return to a meeting.
For a minute I thought open carry was the same as open container. I’d prefer those with open containers not open carry.
Unbelievable! the cops stop this guy. basically hold him hostage then cite him for blocking the flow of traffic when its the cops who created the blockage!
I was tracking a cougar in AZ and saw the trail disappear.
On the way back I found the cougar had circled around me and had been tracking me.
Best to be armed in them mountains
Who is Warren Kanning?

This is the fellow that, according to the T-shirt of the protestor/demonstrator in the video, should be "freed" in New Hampshire.
Just adding to the debate here.
The only thing I have ever had to watch out for here in Texas is rattlesnakes. I am too much of a town girl.
You handled that perfectly. The guy with the beard could learn from your behavior.
You must be in west TX.
Its copperheads and water Moccisans around this part of Tx
Great work!
You are correct. I grew up in WTX, but I now live in ETX. They are still part of my formative existance.
Nicely done!
THat was scary. I woulda been really nervous. The cops coulda snapped at any minute. They do that sometimes.
I have to laugh. Here in Tx I got pulled over on the way to the gun range for a seatbelt violation. There in the van were some AK 47s, a FN FAL,several pistols.
The cop never gave them a second glance.
She was only interested in the seatbelt violation.
Never even asked about the firearms
I had a copper that had me a gunpoint in CA in a case of mistaken identity.
I was not happy about the situation.
And this guy was way jumpy
2nd Amendment ping.
Im in NETX myself
imho, broadcasting your interaction and having your buddies come over and begin yelling nonsensical insults made the situation what it eventually became. i support your cause. people like you should have legal guns, and criminals should not have illegal guns.
one other question: when you have your meetings in the bar, do you all open carry? do you all drink?
In Mississippi the police will ask you all kinds of questions...
“How’s she shoot”?
“Can I see that”.
“How much did it cost you”?
“What kind of ammo does it like”?
“Do you think I could shoot it sometime”?
I do have a few police friends, however.
LLS
I hope you don’t end up facing some adrenaline saturated badge jockey who decides your cell phone looks too much like a Glock and lets muscle memory take over.
The chance of an “accident” ending your career as an educator is real and should be considered seriously every time you belt on your holster.
Stay safe.
As a former cop. I would have arrested, after two warnings, the guy in the striped shirt for interfering with an officer. You will do better the leave him home.
ping
I hear ya. I was beaten up for kicks by a cop.
Mike Terlecki. He was one of James Trafficants foot soldiers when Trafficant was the Sherrif in Mahoning co.
Both those bastards are rotting in the federal pen now.
Bad cops rarely get out clean
Michigan is Open Carry w/o license but Concealed/carry with permit.
The open carry is a very, very little known fact and thats why you will never see anyone openly carrying a firearm.........in fact I mentioned that to a friend who is a reserve police officer in Roseville and he was shocked. He had absolutely no idea that we have the legal right to openly carry a firearm........
That being the case, I'm not about to create a stir by exercising my right. I do have common sense......
This cop was young and looked like a skinhead. When he got mad, he suddenly started talking with black ghetto slang, but he was about as white as you possibly can get. I was mortified. I kept looking at his uniform trying to decide if he was a real cop.
Great video! Thank you for the ping :)
I tend to agree. I would be very cautious around a jumpy cop.
I’d rather work it out in court
There are some pinheads out there.
Most cops are pretty cool, but some are in the wrong line of work.

I support the 2nd amendment as much as anyone. But in the game of real world politics, carrying as an attempt to “educate” I think is more likely to backfire and result in the end of open carry.
Well, there was the proper amount of mustached cops on scene! Whew! Thank the Lord for that!
I have long predicted the arrival of OnStar(TM) Roadside Legal Assistance with recording capabilities.
Your Porcupine 411 seems to have anticipated that service.
It should be made available to everyone.
Best regards,
Excellent!
We just forwarded your video on to many others!
Absolutely. He was behaving like a jerk.
You might not make it to that day. Look, I applaud what you're trying to do here, but don't you ever worry that some rookie will gun you before he has all the facts? I like pork chops, but I certainly wouldn't hang one from my nuts right before I walked through a pack of Rottweilers.
There has got to be a better way of educating the cops than this; not to mention the fact that they may be needed elsewhere while you're making your point.
Again, I applaud your stones, but WOW!
Bull. His presence could have gotten people killed. The guy in the striped shirt was just itching for an escalation, merely to make a point, and he was doing all he could to make the situation worse.
The guy carrying seemed calm, and ok, and rational.
Stripe shirt guy is a true liability. One day, he will do like the Libs, which is create an incident to whine about, in order to prove his point. That idiot will get somebody killed one day.
The arm waving in front of the one cop proved it. I would have loved to see the cop grab his arm, twist it behind his back, and snap it at the elbow.
And believe it or not, I generally don’t like the chips that many cops carry on their shoulders, and I support right to carry. I don’t support irrational idiots attempting to create the thing they don’t like, to justify their hostility. His shoulder-borne chip was much bigger than most cops.
Barneys are the same all over, they all have the god complex.

Oh we're gonna nip this thing! Nip it!
The "friend" was a jerk to be sure. Without a camera, it could have gone down like this in court:
Cop: As I was talking to his "friend" he got more and more belligerent and in my face. I remained calm and tried to diffuse his anger. At one point my kneecap started to itch and as I lifted my leg to scratch my knee, he violently forced his testicles down upon my kneecap. I arrested him for assaulting my leg.
Judge: Guilty!
Sadly, this is no longer your Grandfather's world of pre-emptive surrender pattycakes. People DIE when they do not defend their liberties. Ask Mary Carpenter.
Virginia Citizens Defense League has undertaken a similar education campaign with great success and the example of these bold men have informed all of us of *a better way to do things*.
I salute them.
Best regards,
The video kept nothing in check The guy was carrying was wrong when he said you don’t see this below the notches. He means an area here in NH about 2 plus hour drive from Manchester. It is not unusual to see open carry around the Concord area 15 miles from Manchester.
That must have been in the days before written CALEA standards.
In the interim, Public Safety Officers have learned not to inflame a situation by engaging in colleratal disputes with bystanders.
Perhaps I missed it, but none of the Officers gave any warnings to anyone, except possibly toward the end when the Officer objected to the camcorder, which was itself outside his authority since this all occurred on a public street in broad daylight.
Best regards,
