Digester to clean dairy wastewater

LOS LUNAS, N.Y., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A waste digester that can separate water from cow manure on a farm in New Mexico is believed to be the first of its kind aimed at restoring clean water.

The Raymond L. Jarrett farm, which has 400 cows in Los Lunas, has been awarded $64,686 to treat the cows’ wastewater and reuse it to irrigate fields and recharge aquifers, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported Tuesday.

The digester is one eight projects sharing $274,000 in grants from the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service. The other projects include a portable windmill and wireless moisture monitoring system for farmland.

Digesters, which use anaerobic bacteria, are used in other states to breakdown manure to create biogas for generating electricity. The Jarrett farm is believed to be the first to use the technolgy to improve waste water, the New Mexican reported.

“We think we can get the nitrogen levels below 10 parts per million, which means it can be reinjected into the aquifer,” said Raymond Jarrett.

That’s a good thing. I visited my Dad in Roswell NM this summer and the stench from the dairy farms is unbelievable.

and the chicken and turkey farms too.

Heck, SE Raleigh smells to high heaven in the summer because educated engineers can't seem to get the sewage pump stations sealed and associated air vents filter for that matter.

Wish we could filter the politicians to 10 ppm BS and re-inject them back into a functioning government.

There are other technologies out there, but we’ve been trying to find one that’s cost effective.

Oh my goodness I forgot about that! You know, I got a couple of interesting photos while I was there. This one is clearly an alien who has crash landed on the roof of a Mexican pottery shop:

This one makes the case that they are clearly coming here for a better life, as they seem to be opening franchises. Of course, this could be their evil plot to do us in via saturated fat, I'm not really sure.

Once again the Media has shown how ill informed they are and that one of our States is missing. Having done a MapQuest check there is no LOS LUNAS, N.Y it should be LOS LUNAS, N.M. Having lived in N.M. I find this happens a lot, I have even known people who have been asked for their passports.

Love the McD’s in Roswell. I went through there a while back, and we ate at the Rib Crib.

LOL

You presuppose a functioning government, with or w/o politicians ...

Same prescription needs to be applied to bureaucrats.
