Of course not all Mexicans are “illegal aliens.” But the overwhelming majority of illegals who come here are uneducated and unskilled. They are semi-literate and unememployable even in Mexico. Which is why the Mexican government gives them maps to find their way here. They’re glad to be rid of them because they don’t want to be forced to reform the corrupt Mexican system - and they love the billions they send back to bolster the Mexican economy.
Go read that guy’s post in #5.
“Mexicans dig the ditches and run the cable to the house and a SKILLED person does the technical part.”
Do you understand that THIS is the kind of post that BOR lays claim to racists?
Do you understand that that statement is NOT synonymous with:
“Unskilled illegal immigrants dig the ditches and run the cable to the house and a SKILLED person does the technical part.”
So try it again:
BAD and STUPID: “Mexicans dig the ditches and run the cable to the house and a SKILLED person does the technical part.”
GOOD and LOGICAL: “Unskilled illegal immigrants dig the ditches and run the cable to the house and a SKILLED person does the technical part.”
“BTW nice taking FDTs quote out of context in your tagline.”
Within the sentence or excerpted, “work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship” is self-explanatory and means exactly what it means.
He also has said that he opposes ‘blanket’ amnesty. The majority of Americans are opposed to ANY amnesty for illegal aliens.
If you’re going to support Fred Thompson, you best be prepared to defend and/or support all aspects of his position on illegal immigration.
OK, you have some points.. but .. I did not say there were NO skilled Hispanics, just that I have never met any employed by Verizon, nor did I say anything about legal or illegal.
HOWEVER, the ones who did the outside work at my business did not speak English, so either they are here on a visa or they’re illegal, whatever. I didn’t ask.
BUT, no matter their status, if they can’t speak English they won’t be doing skilled work in this country.
You’ll have to forgive my excitability on the subject!
But I have been closed on by several people here, for example, who have said things like, “You can tell they’re illegals just by looking at them.”
I can’t be more anti-illegal immigration-—but-— those kind of attitudes make me cringe.
And too often, we get sloppy with our generalizations and it’s used against us by demagogues like BOR.
On your last statement in particular we are in total agreement. My post was a bit poorly worded - sometimes you wish there was a “take back and revise” button :)
I own a business where 12 of my 23 employees are Guatemalans or other Hispanics with legal and up-to-date visas. Their English goes from exceedingly poor to very good. The ones with very good English are foremen, because the ones who can’t communicate can’t get the job done right.
However, I will say this - I can generally tell an illegal’s house just by the quantity and quality of cars outside, and the parking skills of the inhabitants (ie on the front lawn or neatly in the driveway).
I have made the call - several times.

It was VERY EASY for my Polish and Italian ancestors to get citizenship. The women didn’t even speak English, yet were given the “nod and a wink” by the local corrupt Dem judges.
