Des Moines, IA (LifeNews.com) -- As the only pro-abortion candidate in the GOP race for president, Rudy Giuliani can't get away from the issue of abortion. But walking away from a question about it was just what he did on Tuesday when he refused to answer a question from an Iowa resident about how his Catholic faith relates to his abortion position.
The former New York City mayor has been dogged by questions about abortion and pro-life Catholics have said he is out of step with the Church because he thinks abortions ought to be legal.
At a town meeting in Iowa Tuesday, someone asked Giuliani whether he considered himself a "traditional, practicing Roman Catholic."
The audience member also asked him to comment on what role his faith did or didn't play in his formulating his policy in favor of abortions.
According to an AP report, Giuliani said whether he was a true Catholic was a personal matter and declined to answer other questions on religion and abortion.
"My religious affiliation, my religious practices and the degree to which I am a good or not so good Catholic, I prefer to leave to the priests," Giuliani said, according to the AP report.
"That would be a much better way to discuss it. That's a personal discussion and they have a much better sense of how good a Catholic I am or how bad a Catholic I am," he added.
The answer wasn't good enough for Thomas Fritzsche of Davenport, the person who asked the mayor about his stance.
"Of course he didn't answer my question," Fritzsche told AP.

I can’t imagine why...
Certainly hope that he’s practicing his “Why I’ve decided not to run for the presidency” speech. He’s going to need one for this stunt as well as numerous others.
What really bothers me is how Sean Hannity keeps touting this moron like he's the second coming or something.
Rudy is a liberal. Pure and simple. I will vote for Hillary before I vote for Rudy and I have have NEVER voted for a Demoncrap and the closest to a liberal I've voted for are both Bushes.
I don't know about the rest of you but I'd rather see Hillary in office (in which case I am certain that she'd end up destroying the demoncrap party) than vote for another RINO.
I am tired of having to pick between the lesser of two evils. I am not a moderate by any stretch of the imagination. I don't believe in living in the gray. It's either black or white for me. Nothing in between - EVER.
I just wish more men and women in America had the intestinal fortitude to take a stand also.
JMHO
I’ve lost all respect for Hannity in the past six months or so.
I enjoy pissing off the Rooty-Rooting FRiberals!
The degree to which Americans see “no big deal” with the slaughter of 40 million human beings is the degree to which Americans deserve Hillary Clinton as President - to act as a scourge upon the land. I pray for America’s sake that this degree is less than 50%.
If those are the choice, I won't vote at all. No one can make you or I cast a ballot against our conscience. To do so would be sin.
Well, I wouldn't go that far. But I'd definitely stay home or vote 3rd party.
What puzzles me, and I know this is off-topic, is how the GOP establishment makes a big fuss over Ron Paul wanting to bring our troops home from Iraq but have no problem with Rudy being pro-abortion/pro-gun control/pro-homosexual rights. All of these positions are far worse than wanting to bring our troops home. At least Paul still favors border security & interior enforcement.
Dont want to answer the questions that are important to voters? = Dont want my vote.
FWIW Saturday I saw in liberal Seattle _THREE_ "Ron Paul for President" banners held up by supporters on overpasses over I-5.

On Sirius, there's a guy...Andrew Wilkow...he calls himself a conservative, but he's just about endorsed Rudy, too.

I agree that Hillary would be better for the Republican party than Rudy would. Rudy will split and alienate conservatives. If Rudy wins in '08, you can count on Republicans losing seats in the house and senate in'10, for sure.
