With a re-vamped Web site, a new Weekly Update e-mail to supporters, and the announcement of top campaign hires, the still-unofficial presidential campaign of actor and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson edges ever closer to officialdom this week.
As part of the flurry of activity, Thompson informed supporters he was taking the month of August to travel around the country and speak with voters. Its not quite two-a-days, but I think were building some real momentum. To keep that momentum, were shifting into higher gear, Thompson wrote in his inaugural e-mail update, released Tuesday,
On Wednesday, the campaign announced that Bill Lacy, a former Reagan White House political aide, had joined as chairman of Friends of Fred Thompson. Lacey worked on the presidential campaigns of Reagan, President George H.W. Bush and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, and also worked on Thompsons 2004 Senate run.
As I move toward a decision on whether to run for president, I am confident he will take our operations to the next level, Thompson said in a statement.
The campaign also named Randy Enwright national political director of the testing the waters campaign. Enwright, a Florida native, has served as executive director for the state GOP in Florida and Iowa and served as political director of the Missouri Republican Party, in addition to work on campaigns for all three Bushs presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, as well as Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
Linda Rozett, a spokeswoman for Friends of Fred Thompson, wouldnt give a date for an announcement, but many observers expect Thompson to make his run official in early September.
I’m not sure what the point is of campaigning when virtually no one outside of news junkies and the political blogosphere are really paying attention to the race. The only really useful thing he can do right now is get organized, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
He can’t that would tantamount to declaring and would defeat the wole reason he is holding back...
Nothing like starting off on a negative note.
“Aw, hes just playing with us. Hell drag it out then throw his support to Ron Paul...”
That there’s funny... I don’t care who you are!

Universal Health Care is almost a done deal.. all it will take is a democrat President..
The democrats will Amnesty 20+ million brand new (voting)democrats in 2008..
OH!.. with blessings of George Bush..
Reagan was nothing but a fancy hippie...
It won’t be long now, he’ll run, I’m sure, and probably go on to win the presidency.
I will agree with those who say he waited just a tad too long, he’s peaked, there’s impatience now.
By Labour Day at the latest.
Damn, I can’t type all of the sudden...
Mucho grassass...

John Birch??
Those pinko commie pigs??
Fred bump!
Go Fred!
No one can hold a candle to Ron Paul’s conservative credentials..
My favorite Reagan-ism was when Sam Donaldson asked him something like, “Don’t you think that you are responsible, at least in part, for all of the homeless in America”?
Reagan said something along the lines of, “You know Sam, I do. I was once a democrat you know”!

I don’t know...
I have my doubts about Dr. Paul.
In fact, I have my doubts about EVERYONE, save me and thee...
And I’m kinda wonderin’ about thee.

No matter what kind of person Fred Thompson is, this is lame. I hope he gets in and we all can see exactly what Thompson is made out of. So far I am far from impressed, but I have not written him off.
