Are Gore and Newsweek’s Climate Change ‘Deniers’ Accusations Coordinated?
NewsBusters ^ | August 8, 2007 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 08/08/2007 7:22:07 PM PDT by CedarDave

As NewsBusters reported Sunday, Newsweek's current issue featured a cover story blasting anthropogenic global warming skeptics as "deniers," and pointing fingers at companies like ExxonMobil as participating in a coordinated misinformation campaign akin to the tobacco industry misleading citizens about the dangers of cigarette smoking.

Shortly after this new issue hit the stands, Al Gore told a forum in Singapore, "the deniers offered a bounty of $10,000 for each article disputing the consensus that people could ... get published somewhere."

This raises an interesting question: Is this a coordinated attack designed to incite anger in citizens that polls show are not as upset about this issue as the left and their media minions?

~~ snip ~~

... the public doesn't seem to be buying into the hysteria. And, if some major climate event doesn't happen soon, these public opinion numbers are going to make matters much worse for the alarmists.

As a result, maybe they feel they're running out of time, especially given the number of scientists who believe the current warming cycle peaked in 1998, and that we have begun a cooling trend. Might they be thinking a conspiracy similar to what tobacco companies did decades ago is just the tonic they need to rekindle the public's ire?

... So, maybe the new tactic being tried by the alarmists - since the current one clearly isn't working - is to create the appearance of a conspiracy ... being funded by those nasty oil companies.

Now, to be sure, oil companies funding such activities is not a new concept. This industry is constantly in the crosshairs of environmental groups ...

However, what seems new is the timing of this Newsweek piece coincident with Gore's statements in Singapore, along with skeptics now being referred to as deniers.

As such, this bears watching.

... the public doesn't seem to be buying into the hysteria. And, if some major climate event doesn't happen soon, these public opinion numbers are going to make matters much worse for the alarmists.

Here are the Newsweak numbers and NewsBusters comment:

39 percent of those asked say there is "a lot of disagreement among climate scientists" on the basic question of whether the planet is warming; 42 percent say there is a lot of disagreement that human activities are a major cause of global warming. Only 46 percent say the greenhouse effect is being felt today."

[...]

[L]ess than half [are] in favor of requiring high-mileage cars or energy-efficient appliances and buildings.

The reality is that barring additional catastrophic climate events, the public's interest in spending their own money on this issue is going to thoroughly disappear.

For the sake of country's future and our personal freedom of choice, we can certainly hope that is the case.

That "major climate event" is happening right now in the San Fran Bay Area -- we are freezing our tails off! High yesterday was something like 65 on the peninsula and not much better today. No summer this year!

I call B.S. on AL.

  1. Name the deniers that put up the bounty!
  2. Prove a consensus (science is not about consensus but repeatable and verifiable observations)
  3. Show evidence of any scientist getting paid off for publishing an article disputing global warming climate change.

Al has just libeled every scientist that disagrees with him. If anyone is manipulating opinion it is the arrogant global warming crowd that would not credential qualified climatologists and meteorologists if they don't profess the same global warming creed.

Al has not engaged in scientific debate but in strong-arm politics and dishonest publicity. The man is mad, but he certainly is no mad scientist.

Not only is their cordination by Gore and the MSM, but the entertainment & retail industry as well because their is a whole lot of $$$$$$ to be made in pushing global warming hysteria.

Prime example: I’m in the starbucks at my office today, and right at eye level at the cash register is a advertisement for the video of “Artic Tale” with a picture of a polar bear mother and cubs. Its being marketed as a video to buy to watch with your children (its always critical that indoctrination of communist b.s. starts at an early age). Al Gore’s daughter is involved the scripting of the narration in the movie.

Try Center for American Progress -- seems to be the Soros-funded media war-room to me.

Watched an Animal Planet story on polar bears over the weekend. Every other paragraph was how their fight for survival was made more difficult by global warming. It would have been laughable if it hadn’t been so pathetic. Of course, no one pointed out how polar bears survived during the documented warm periods following the end of the last ice age (when Greenland was actually green, for example, and supported viking homesteaders).

Excellent point; they have been deeply involved in activities to defame all things conservative, including talk radio and arguments counter to their liberal-socialist intentions.

Which point? An actual conspiracy or the population coming to their senses and recognizing they've been scammed?

Al Gore: “. . .the deniers offered a bounty of $10,000 for each article disputing the consensus that people could crank out and get published somewhere.”

They offered $10,000 for any new scientific paper on the subject which is not a large fee.

Gore charges $100,000 plus expenses as a speaking fee.

The American Enterprise Institute offered the $10,000 fee to people who would dig into the scientific data in the UN report and write it up in articles in plain English. Exxon has contributed some money to AEI. It was a straight above board call for papers.
