I wore Accuview lenses for 15 or so years. 3-4 years ago, I started getting serious eye irritation, eye doc switched me to a couple different types, nothing worked. Back to glasses ever since.

Like my eyes just decided not to tolerate them any longer.

The first thing I would do would be to see an opthamologist to find out the state of your eyes. The prolonged dryness may need treatment; same for any ongoing allergic activity.

I recently had my annual check-up and unbeknowst to me, I had both going on. My doc gave me some Visine tears, which he favors because the product is preservative-free. My eyes actually feel better now even though I hadn’t really realized that anything was wrong.

Yeah: suddenly I squint a lot and my driving skills have deteriorated.

Thanks for your comment. I did think that I would see a different eye doc this time, just to make absolutely sure what I have been doing should be changed somehow.

Perform an “audit” of your sanitary habits. After a change to an aromatic hand cleaner I had a lot of problems. I had to revert to a cleaner which did not seem to leave a residue on my hands.

I also have to have my barber cut the front of my hair so that it won’t reach my eyebrows. The hair seemed to be delivering dirt to my eye area. Shorter hair in front helps a lot.

Thank you for your suggestions. I suppose that it would be good to change the hand soap, make absolutely sure that all containers are allowed to dry out between storings, and that hair in the eyes is also a problem as I know that I have shown sensitivity to certain hair products which if close enough to be brushing eyelids could contribute to irritation I am experiencing.

With regard the first letter on this subject I believe it is very important that we note the following:

“With all of the revelations about many products from China not meeting our health standards, I have become suspicious that these products that are packaged and sealed in solution, have never come under scrutiny by FDA or any other agency in U.S. and perhaps what consumers are getting does not measure up to same quality and sterility as when made in U.S.A”

My wife is having trouble with Acuvue Oasys contacts made in China. And you know why we know they are made in China?

Its because 50% of the package is written in Chinese!

Does anyone here believe that the FDA would approve of instructions for wearing being written in Chinese for American use?!

Any one else having more problems in past three years or less?

Yes, and my optometrist switched me to B&L. No problems since.

“I don’t wear contacts but I just have to say this is becoming ridiculous ... Exactly how much less can a dime sized sliver of plastic be made to make it economical to produce it halfway around the world and then ship it?” -—Neidermeyer

It is about money, and getting access to markets. I am writing from Shanghai. In no city anywhere in the USA have I seen so many eyewear shops. It seems like they put them in every fifth to ninth storefront in Shanghai. Chain shops and independent shops. Lenscrafters is here, and several other American chains (if they are still owned by Americans!). Then there are British, European, Australian, Japanese and Korean eyewear chain shops.

I am assuming that China would not open up the market unless the companies could put a whole lot of Chinese to work in factories making eyewear. So perhaps the companies thought, if we have to open Chinese factories in order to sell in their market, then WHY keep our American factories open? Why not just make everything in China; it’s light and easy to ship those little plastic slivers to the USA, and the overhead and labor is cheaper overall in China.

That’s what I THINK is happening. I’m not in business in China; I have other projects going. But I THINK that the size of the individual item is not as important as cheaper overhead and access to the Chinese market for eyewear products.
