Welcome Congressman Duncan Hunter - LIVE Thread (virtual Free Republic press Conference)
From San Diego, CA | 8/13/07 | Duncan Hunter/Freepers

Posted on 08/13/2007 1:24:44 PM PDT by pissant

To members of Free Republic and friends, I would like to introduce a candidate for President of the United States and the current congressman from the 52nd district of California, Duncan Hunter!! To Americans who value the patriotism and missions of our Armed Forces, to those who want to put fear into the hearts of our adversaries from Beijing to Tehran, to those who value the rule of law when it comes to illegal immigration, to those who realize that the unborn deserve full legal protection beginning at conception, to those who believe Peace through Strength is far more than a motto, to those who do not like giving communist China unfettered access to our markets while they cheat at every turn, to those who want to halt and reverse losses of US sovereignty to global entities, and to those who want the GOP to return to Reaganism, Mr. Hunter is the Best choice.

Congressman Hunter currently is the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, after spending the previous 4 years as its chair. He is an original co-sponsor of the Fair Tax bill and he is the author of the Secure Borders bill, signed by President Bush in 2006, which mandates 800+ miles of double fence across the smuggling corridors of the SW. He also is the man who has led the fight against NAFTA’s Mexican truckers having free reign on our roads, has forced congressional oversight of the executive branch’s ‘Security and Prosperity Partnership’ with Canada and Mexico, and was instrumental in saving our military intelligence officers from having to jump through bureaucratic hoops unrelated to combat.

A Vietnam combat Veteran himself, he currently has a son in the Marine Corps, Capt. Duncan Duane Hunter who is busy hunting jihadis in Afghanistan after two tours in Iraq. Congressman Hunter has been the anti-dote to the liberals in Congress doing their damndest to cut and run from the battlefield. Mr. Hunter knows that this war is our generation’s calling, and “the only way we can leave is to WIN”.

Below are 15 questions we compiled last month on Free Republic, which we sent to Congressman Hunter a few weeks ago. They are followed by his answers. This is the springboard we will use to kick off Mr. Hunter’s live “virtual press conference” on FR today.

Please stop by and say hello and you may post additional questions. HOWEVER, Please realize that time limitations will prevent him from answering all the questions you may have. Though he may get time later to forward answers to many left unaddressed during this session.

Please drop Jim Robinson a note of thanks as well. For not only hosting this event, but for having the best conservative website in the country!

Also, no disruptors allowed. Your posts will be removed.

The following is our Kickoff Q&A session:

“In every speech I state that as President, when reviewing judicial applicants, any candidate for the bench who can view a sonogram of an unborn child, and not see a valuable human life, will not receive my appointment. This has been my position throughout my career and will be strongly emphasized in my Presidency. I will continue to make that known and continue to solicit co-sponsors in my legislation that establishes legal recognition of the unborn at conception.”

B4DH!

Bump for LIFE!

That is an erroneous statement. No one is giving you permission to work. They are PREVENTING illegals from working.

You have just revealed that you are not aware of what EEVS actually does, and that explains why you didn't see anything wrong with it. That's understandable, since this scheme has not been subject to public debate, and is being forced on us without our input and consent.

The Employment Eligibility Verification System applies to ALL American workers, by requiring them to get PERMISSION from the federal government in order to work, by whatever criteria the Department of Homeland Security sets up. If the DHS requires biometric data, and you refuse, you cannot be employed anywhere in the United States. If DHS requires a REAL ID with an RFID chip (which is the plan), you cannot be employed without it.

In its application, this really has little to do with illegal immigration, and is not necessary for border enforcement. Back in 1997, it was set in motion under Bill Clinton in a voluntary pilot program that was far from successful. In a mandatory form, the thing was attached to the Senate bill that thankfully failed, but for some strange reason some Republican House members now have naively adopted it in the name of enforcement. My hope is that good folks like Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo, who have signed on to cosponsor the deal, will see the light and stand against this thing.

Now do you follow?

Sanctuary states do not report or identify illegal aliens.

Obviously, there is a simple remedy for that. Make the practice of "sanctuary cities" illegal.

In fact, it's hard to understand why it isn't already illegal under current law.

I agree. And the NGOs that fund this should NOT be partnering with federal, state and local agencies either.

Hardly. The Employment Eligibility Verification System first caught my attention two months ago on FreeRepublic, when a lowly White House staffer was sent here to spin for Bush, and let the cat out of the bag. It's been of great concern to me since that time, and I have been surprised to find many of our politicians endorsing it without ever explaining what it is.

I adamantly oppose anything resembling this plan.

Employment Eligibility Verification System would make you completely at the mercy of the Department of Homeland Security in order to be "eligible" to work

The proposals I have seen for this program is for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ONLY.
They would not be issued for legal American Citizens with valid SSN.

Thank you so much for having Duncan Hunter here at Free Republic. It is refreshing to see someone actually answer questions that were asked and not spin them.
I am solidly behind you Mr.Hunter and am proud to display your bumper sticker on the back of my 02 Dodge Dually.
Thank you for your service to your country in the U.S.Army Rangers and also in the Congress.
I believe that just as America needed General George S. Patton Jr. to rout the Germans in WWII, America needs Duncan Hunter in 2008 to get America back on track and in line with what our founding fathers visioned.
Thank you.

Sad to say, elizabetty, you are incorrect.

The EEVS does indeed apply to every American worker, and creates a database which the Department of Homeland Security plans to use to give approval before anyone can be employed. I would recommend a thorough google search on the subject, in addition to checking out my posts already on this thread.

Our politicians have tried to pass this without any debate. The details haven't been clearly presented to the public, so it's no wonder you haven't heard of it before.

“Homeland Security plans to use to give approval before anyone can be employed”.

Does California “give approval” before anyone can go to a tavern? Of course not. They just exclude people under 21.

Your characterization is flawed.

Non sequitur.

No, its not. It’s called an analogy.

Your analogy is a non sequitur because an American citizen's right to provide for himself and make a living for his family should not depend upon governmental approval or "eligibility" for employment.

Government is our servant, not our master.
