Welcome Congressman Duncan Hunter - LIVE Thread (virtual Free Republic press Conference)
From San Diego, CA | 8/13/07 | Duncan Hunter/Freepers

Posted on 08/13/2007 1:24:44 PM PDT by pissant

To members of Free Republic and friends, I would like to introduce a candidate for President of the United States and the current congressman from the 52nd district of California, Duncan Hunter!! To Americans who value the patriotism and missions of our Armed Forces, to those who want to put fear into the hearts of our adversaries from Beijing to Tehran, to those who value the rule of law when it comes to illegal immigration, to those who realize that the unborn deserve full legal protection beginning at conception, to those who believe Peace through Strength is far more than a motto, to those who do not like giving communist China unfettered access to our markets while they cheat at every turn, to those who want to halt and reverse losses of US sovereignty to global entities, and to those who want the GOP to return to Reaganism, Mr. Hunter is the Best choice.

Congressman Hunter currently is the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, after spending the previous 4 years as its chair. He is an original co-sponsor of the Fair Tax bill and he is the author of the Secure Borders bill, signed by President Bush in 2006, which mandates 800+ miles of double fence across the smuggling corridors of the SW. He also is the man who has led the fight against NAFTA’s Mexican truckers having free reign on our roads, has forced congressional oversight of the executive branch’s ‘Security and Prosperity Partnership’ with Canada and Mexico, and was instrumental in saving our military intelligence officers from having to jump through bureaucratic hoops unrelated to combat.

A Vietnam combat Veteran himself, he currently has a son in the Marine Corps, Capt. Duncan Duane Hunter who is busy hunting jihadis in Afghanistan after two tours in Iraq. Congressman Hunter has been the anti-dote to the liberals in Congress doing their damndest to cut and run from the battlefield. Mr. Hunter knows that this war is our generation’s calling, and “the only way we can leave is to WIN”.

Below are 15 questions we compiled last month on Free Republic, which we sent to Congressman Hunter a few weeks ago. They are followed by his answers. This is the springboard we will use to kick off Mr. Hunter’s live “virtual press conference” on FR today.

Please stop by and say hello and you may post additional questions. HOWEVER, Please realize that time limitations will prevent him from answering all the questions you may have. Though he may get time later to forward answers to many left unaddressed during this session.

Please drop Jim Robinson a note of thanks as well. For not only hosting this event, but for having the best conservative website in the country!

Also, no disruptors allowed. Your posts will be removed.

The following is our Kickoff Q&A session:

If a Duncan Hunter ping list starts please add me to it.

Also I would really like my son to listen to more of Hunter on tv.

Anyone please let us know if CSPAN or any other tv airings.

I want King Vanity to really listen and make a more educated decision without my influence.
Heh I could say Mr. Hunter reminds me of a couple of politicians my son looks up to and he would jump right on board but that would interference and not allowing him to think for himself.
Heh..

Looking forward to hearing more from you in the media.

The last debate it just seemed so obvious that you were hitting the points clear and concise.

I like a person who can get to the point with out all the blabbing filler jabber.

Alan Keyes was like that.

We’re pullin’ for ya Hunter!

Duncan Hunter... Wow.. I just want you to know how very proud I am that you are running Sir.. Every on line political position poll I took pegged you as number one to represent my positions.

I took time the other day to make my first batches of tee-shirts with your candidacy embroidered. So many at work have asked me to tell them more about you.. I plan to print out your answers here to present tommorrow.

It is such an honor to meet you once again. Thank you for taking time and I wish I had known you were going to be here sooner.

Please add me to any future DH ping lists.

Thank you for this excellent Q&A. I enjoyed reading Congressman Hunter's excellent responses.

He's still my third choice, after Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo. But he's a good choice, by and large.

What is his plan to get out of the spot he’s in and move up? What about using his status as the one the media ignores or gives short shrift to as a hook on which to draw attention to himself and his Reaganesque beliefs? Or how about the fact that others talk, he ACTS, as a hook on which to draw attention? Somethings gotta give or it’s over before it starts. Just talking about the border fence, the chicoms and his son in Iraq ain’t gettin’ it done. I say this as one of his stalwart supporters.

Thanks, I have thought about the fact many people just don’t know who he is.
Not much in the msm about him. argh

Heck even my hubby says “Whos Duncan Hunter? ‘I’m with Fred’.” LOL

But hey, it’s still very early and the people who know their politics do know him.

I’m suggesting asking him what is his plan to overcome this. I happen to be one that doesn’t think just going on the way he has been, only just doing more of it in more venues is going to cut it. Yes, that would need to be done but it isn’t enough, imho. That’s why within my question I posed a couple of possible ways he could gain more publicity and recognition by hanging his candidacy on a hook that might draw attention. The Congressman that was and is very Reaganesque in his views and record, whom the media ignores. Or, the Congressman who has done amazing things by ACTING on vital issues while others mostly talk. Something, anything is better than no hook at all. IMHO.

Your gov’t “approval” or “eligibility” is based on a simple premise. Are you a citizen of this country or legal resident?

Are you 21? you can buy a scotch and soda.

Are you 18 and legal? You can vote.

Are you male? You can use the men’s room.

Do you have a driver’s license? You can drive.

Do you have a passport? You can travel abroad.

Do you work? you pay taxes.

Are you a vet? You can get the GI bill.

i would vote for duncan hunter.

the problem is,

name recognition—few people around the u.s.a. know who he is.

i mentioned him to a neighbor and she said, “who’s that?”

So then we need to work on the name recognition.

Boy Clinton was a nobody who embarrassed himself with his lengthy speech at the DEM convention and received cheers when he said "in closing"...it was THAT BAD.

There is no such thing as "bad press" because he shortly after that he appeared on Johnny Carson playing his Saxophone. Bingo! Name and face recognition.

An extremely talented group of managers will get him name recognition. WE can do it.

Those of us who already know Rep. Hunter have heard him speak on multiple occasions. The vast majority of American voters have not, so the border, the chi-con, and Duncan Duane are news to them. And they are right now the main core of Rep. Hunter’s message.

I know what you mean. But let us remember that this was one of the first times he had an opportunity to speak at length on TV without being rudely cut off. In his Iowa speech I kept waiting for him to talk about something new, or use a fresh approach to what to us is an old subject. Hopefully he will begin to do this in the near future, when the majority have heard him and know where he is coming from.

Huckabee has a way with wit and words which charms. But Huckabee is not a conservative. I don’t want to be charmed by my president. I want one who is substantive, completely believable, and who is truly able to be in charge. I am sure you feel exactly the same way. :)

P.S. Rep. Hunter must rely on a campaign staff which will begin to develop strategy, inform the populace of his coming appearances well in advance, and, in short, do the sort of thing we do here on FR, GET THE WORD OUT ON HIM TO THE VOTERS. So far it would seem that staff needs to wake up! This amazing man can do a great deal, and also show up on the floor of Congress, but he can’t be expected to do it all.

Your gov’t “approval” or “eligibility” is based on a simple premise. Are you a citizen of this country or legal resident?

Wrong. That's not what the EEVS is about.

In order for you to be employed, as an American citizen, you will have to meet whatever criteria the Department of Homeland Security sets up.

Under the EEVS plan, biometric data is likely to be required of you before you can work. Are you comfortable with that?

No, I’m not. neither is Mr Hunter. I heard him talking about this on a long interview with some Christian radio station. He says use the SS#. He was not talking about a card for US citizens other than the one we already have.

Do you realize that the EEVS plan provides for an overhaul of the Social Security card, to make it digital and thereby capable of tracking every use, and would require biometric data on the holder?

Again, I refer you to this testimony before Congress:

That was a proposal in the recent senate bill, and is NOT part of the current pilot program.

You are mixing up what some have proposed with what it actually is.

Congressman Hunter;

What is your position on diplomatic relations between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the US? Will you advocate for the restoral of their Security Council Seat?
