A Life of Hardship, and Now, Two Fugitive Sons {Newark execution murders}
New York Times ^ | August 13, 2007 | ROBERT D. McFADDEN and ANNIE CORREAL

Posted on 08/13/2007 1:35:22 PM PDT by 3AngelaD

A few blocks from the Newark schoolyard where the killings had been carried out, Gloria Gomez sat on her porch in the fading afternoon light, hardship etched on her careworn face, and tears welled in her eyes as she spoke of her two fugitive sons...

“I raised them honestly, through my hard work,” the 45-year-old mother said in Spanish, remembering 20 years of cleaning other people’s houses, of abandonment by two husbands and of life as an immigrant...

Ms. Gomez’s sons — Rodolfo Godinez, 24, and his 16-year-old half brother — were still being sought by the police yesterday in the close-range shootings that killed three young people and wounded a fourth at a playground at the Mount Vernon School on Aug. 4...Three people have been arrested in the shootings: Jose Lachira Carranza, 28, and two teenagers...authorities were seeking a sixth person...

Ms. Gomez indicated that she was only vaguely aware that her older son had been in trouble with the law. According to Essex County records, Mr. Godinez was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to 18 months’ probation and fined for theft. He was also placed on probation for theft when he was 16, according to a law enforcement official...He became a legal permanent resident of the United States in 2001...

Recalling her family odyssey, Ms. Gomez said she immigrated alone from Nicaragua in 1987 to escape poverty and war. She traveled through Mexico, settled in Newark and got cleaning work... Later, she married her younger son’s father, who also abandoned her and became a drug addict...

The teenager’s page on the MySpace social-networking Web site has references to MS-13...along with a picture of him wearing a bandanna over the lower half of his face...

Words fail me...but notice how they avoid identifying her as an illegal immigrant: "...she immigrated alone from Nicaragua in 1987 to escape poverty and war. She traveled through Mexico, settled in Newark and got cleaning work..."

She said she last saw her sons before dawn on July 17, when she and her mother, Luisa Rayo, with whom she lives, flew to their native Nicaragua for a visit with relatives in Tipitapa, a town near Managua, the capital.

She also regrets ever coming to USA.

SO DO WE SO DO WE.

ICE should put her on a plane back to Nicaragua.

If she fled the Sandinista regime, she may be a refugee and not a garden-variety illegal alien.

“I raised them honestly...”

No, you raised them to disrespect the laws of the country you yourself were disrespecting. You raised them to be outlaws.

I’m tired of excuses being made for cold blooded murderers! I don’t care if she struggled, was single, etc....she could have raised her sons to respect the law!

Oops, sorry....Mama don’t respect the law, does she?

Boys need a strong (moral, lawful, ethical, responsible & respectful of the mother) father figure when they grow up; mother’s just can’t fill the slot the same way a man does.

Do you have anything other than your own opinion on which to base that claim?

Mama raised a murderer....and likely broke immigration laws...so if that’s the case she has 20 years of criminal history already!

She has been here for 20 years and still can’t speak English. Sure they want to become Americans and share in the dream. I am so tired of this.

Is Mama legal? The story traces the standard route of ILLEGALS, but I don’t see where they say that she applied for political asylum. One might think that any amnesty propagandist worth his pay would mention that fact in a sob story.

Leave it to the New York Slimes to turn this heinous crime into a sniveling feel-good piece for an “immigrant.”

Gloria, you raised garbage. This comes as no surprise, because you are garbage. You and your sons are the kind of garbage that most decent Americans hate. You are freeloading termites eating away at the public decency of our country. You were probably gargabe where you were, and you are garbage here! Your sons deserve no quater, and you should be deported immediately!

Is Mama legal? The story traces the standard route of ILLEGALS, but I don’t see where they say that she applied for political asylum. One might think that any amnesty propagandist worth his pay would mention that fact in a sob story.

The underlying story suggests that she's legal. Specifically,

She said she last saw her sons before dawn on July 17, when she and her mother, Luisa Rayo, with whom she lives, flew to their native Nicaragua for a visit with relatives in Tipitapa, a town near Managua, the capital.... she learned of the killings and the hunt for her sons only when she returned Tuesday....

Note: she flew out of the county, and then presumably flew back into the country. And if so, she had to pass through customs -- which would indicate that she had proper legal documentation.

I would simply note that the resident FR bigotry has again raised its ugly head, presuming "illegal" apparently without basis other than personal bias.

FReepers can be a sickening crowd, sometimes. Some of the crap on this thread falls into that bucket.

“Do you have anything other than your own opinion on which to base that claim?”

As Pres. Reagan would say, “There you go again.”
Tell me, are you ever right on ANYTHING?
