(Not) Howie Carr live thread
HowieCarr.com ^ | 8/14/07 | raccoonradio

Yes, starting a bit early; note Howie is prob. not on air today (not sure who's filling in). He's said the other day he'd be off "Tue." for "jury duty". In his last hour yesterday he said again he'd be off (today) but "it's not for jury duty, it's for something else". I wonder if "jury duty" was a casual way of referring to meeting up with lawyers trying to get all this settled?

To get all what settled? Remember, I don't hear Howie down here in Va. so I'm not on top of things up there anymore.

(Not) Howie live ping. (Nice day today, good day for a walk
maybe for someone like me who works nights and gets to enjoy the sunshine—and listen to whomever’s filling in for Howie.

Howie Carr, for those just joining us, is trying to bolt
WRKO (and his 10 station “network”) for WTKK in Boston.
Supposedly his WRKO contract expires Sept 19 and he wants to start at WTKK on Oct 1 but there are legal hassles. WRKO
claims it did give Howie a counter-offer after all, etc.

Howie would like to do morning drive on an FM station
that doesn’t have signal fade or Red Sox pre-emptions.
Entercom (WRKO owner) also dealing with contract
hassles re: their morning drive team on sister station
WEEI:

Well, trying to get out of WRKO—his deal was set to expire in Sept. and supposedly Entercom offered him a deal with a $50k
pay CUT. Howie said no thanks and negotiated to to Greater
Media/WTKK (not sure what salary is, but supposedly a 5 year deal). They promised him the morning slot. We’re still waiting to hear what happens, as Entercom claims they “matched”
Greater Media’s deal.

However Howie wants a morning slot, and I think he really
wants OUT of WRKO.

Meanwhile, since Howie will supposedly be getting what was the Imus slot at WTKK...
http://www.drudgereport.com

Matt Drudge is reporting that Imus has 20 million reasons to be happy, and they all have
George Washington’s picture on them...thanks to a settlement with CBS...and he also
may wind up with a slot on WABC New York (and maybe
get syndicated nationwide)

Howie wants the morning slot so he can pummel Chrome Dome. Dennis and Callahan are nowhere to be found. Jason Wolfe and Lady MacBeth are killing WRKO and WEEI. I don’t even turn on my radio at work until 10 o’clock.

Exactly...and HC gets to get out of work at 9 am (note I
said 9 am—allegedly the slot would be 5:30 to 9, not
5:30 to 10...)

Who knew Chubby could roll out that early? Maybe it’s the thought of getting fresh, hot, sticky donuts that motivates him. Leaving the rest of the day to hang around the town dump asking people if they’re going to throw that away and can he have it?

Well he used to at least call in to Blute & Scotto about 6:30 am or so, from his mansion in Swellesley...WTKK can send
him a limo to pick him up so he can have Dunkin Donuts and
coffee in the back seat on the way to Morrissey Blvd...
(WTKK’s studios are right next door to the Boston
Globe-Democrat)

You forget that Howie has his daughters and his dogs to help take care of in the morning as well as his other A.M. chores. The Carr family is a very big and a very busy family!

the poll question is apparently should the practice of
giving “cute” names to hurricanes be stopped...

let’s see who’s on for Howie today...it’s...

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” brings up one image in my head: Hillary throwing a lamp at Bubba.

...Bernie Goldberg’s book 100 People Who Are Screwing
Up America cited the Rep. in Congress who complained because hurricane names “weren’t black enough”. As Bernie pointed
out, news flash: hurricanes are BAD. They KILL...

Don’t blame me, I voted for Hurricane Muffy! :)

There was a ‘cane named after my first name: Hurricane Bob.

from Goldberg’s book (via Search Inside on amazon.com):

“Sheila Jackson Lee is a black Congresswoman from Texas who has put her finger on one of the great problems facing African-Americans in these United States of America. There aren’t any hurricanes named after black people. I guess that m means there aren’t enough hurricanes named Keisha, Jamal,
DeShawn, or LaToya. I mean, black people also have such names as (such recent hurricanes as) Charley and Frances but I’m
pretty sure that’s not what she’s talking about.

“Congresswoman Lee believes hurricane names shortchange
black kids...She hoped federal weather officials ‘would
try to be inclusive of African-American names’. That’s
right. Hurricane names like Andrew and Bonnie and Ivan
are just too darn white. We need affirmative action when it comes to naming destructive storms. Right on, sister!...
Here’s a news flash for the congresswomen: Hurricanes
are bad. They’re deadly. People don’t like them. If I
were you, I’d try to pass a law MANDATING that all
hurricane names, without exception, be restricted to
Skip and Biff and Muffy, as a kind of reparation for all
the bad stuff that has happened to black people over the
years in this country.”

That’s right: Hurricane Muffy, all right!

A new catchphrase for the reparation movement.

"foety acres and a hurricane"
