The aim of the overhaul is to guarantee to the people the largest amount of happiness possible, This remark is both hilarious and frightening at the same time.

And the sad thing is the left in this country sees nothing wrong with what he’s doing.
It’s something they wish they could do here because they know what’s best “for the children”.

Unfortunately, rule-for-life is the typical pattern with a dictator, especially a commie one. His term ends when a younger, bigger, badder commie comes along and liquidates him.
Thus history repeats itself yet again...

He’s a dictator! Any American politician who favors him should be voted out of office.

So there is no other leftist socialist in the country capablke of being president. Is that Hugo’s position? or just that he is a dictator like all the others leftist leaders and will never leave the power dome. Once elected, always in office.

President Hugo Chávez will unveil a project to change the Constitution on Wednesday that is expected to allow him to be re-elected indefinitely, a move that would enhance his authority to accelerate a socialist-inspired transformation of Venezuelan society. What a strange statement from the NYT. Is this propaganda from the Times or from Venezuela?
I'd call the move a bit more than "a socialist-inspired transformation". Along the lines of Hitler or Stalin is more like it.

You are correct. I should have clarified my point - that is, UNLESS a bigger, badder commie comes along...

Well, I sympathize with him. It’s really expensive to have to stage phony elections every four years. ;)

The NYT has suppored tyrants before.
This is one example of similar previous propping up of a dictator. And
this is another. Keep in mind that the NYT thinks there is nothing unpatriotic about running puff pieces on mass murdering dictators, and the readers of the NYT don't either. Is it any wonder they didn't see through Arafat if they couldn't see through Stalin and Castro? And how they treat Hugo Chavez shows they've learned nothing at the NYT.
