Coincidentally, I heard on the news a few hours ago that there was a volcanic eruption reported in Indonesia. There also was a volcanic eruption reported yesterday occurring in Alaska:

Alaskan volcano erupts

McClatchy Newspapers

HOMER, Alaska | An Alaska volcano erupted Wednesday, sending ash more than 8,000 feet into the atmosphere.

Pavlof Volcano, which sits on the remote Alaska Peninsula 600 miles southwest of Anchorage, has not erupted for 11 years.

Eyewitnesses on several ships reported seeing incandescent blocks falling down the east-southeast flank of the volcano Tuesday night, the Alaska Volcano Observatory reported Wednesday.

Less then a week ago there was a 4.5 directly N. of LA. Not that this matters as there are always tinier earthquakes here, but it is the big picture in the last week that makes it stand out and now the volcano eruption.
