WASHINGTON In the 2008 presidential sweepstakes, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Rodham Clinton has edged ahead of Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani in the most recent Quinnipiac Poll match-up.
"The movement is glacial, but for Sen. Hillary Clinton, it's in the right direction," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
Clinton held a 46-43 percent advantage over the former New York City mayor among likely voters in the national poll of 1,545 voters that was conducted between Aug. 7 and 13. The poll also found that Clinton is well ahead of her Democratic rivals for the party's nomination.
The New York senator was favored by 36 percent of Democrats polled.
Illinois Sen. Barack Obama was favored by 21 percent. And, non-candidate Al Gore was backed by 15 percent.
"At the moment, it really is a one-person race," Carroll said.
However, he cautioned that Clinton could stumble because her unfavorable ratings are the highest of any top presidential contender at 43 percent.
"The 'Hillary hostility' factor is constant and feeds doubts about whether she can win in November 2008," Carroll said. "That polling perennial her unfavorability factor remains high."

Among Republicans polled, Giuliani was favored by 28 percent followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who was favored by 15 percent.
The survey of 1,545 voters has a margin of error of 2.5 percent, including 611 Republicans with a margin of error of 4.0 percent, and 717 Democrats with a margin of error of 3.7 percent.

” If Rudy Giuliani is the Republican nominee in 2008, I will make it a point to cast a vote . . . against him.”
so you would vote for Clinton over Rudy? yikes that is disturbing. I vote my heart in the primaries which will be Fred if he runs if not then probably Duncan Hunter
then if it is Rudy vs. Hillary i will hold my nose and vote for someone i agree with say 30% of the time over 0%
Maybe they want her “free” Hillary Care?
Or just are emotional and like martyrdom? Could be trolls?
Probably all of the above, ignore them, they are sick.
If Rudy is the nominee, I will do all I can to help the Republican Party go the way of the Whigs. Out of the debacle of a Hillary presidency, perhaps a conservative party can be created.
My postings were not diffuse worry. They are legitimate worry, bordering on literal outright justified fear.
Do you really think this country will survive 4 years under Mrs. Bill Clinton and a Democrat Congress?
Unfortunately this is what most elections become... a question of who is the "least worst" candidate as opposed to who is the best candidate. At this point, I don't care if the GOP nominee is Mickey Mouse. He'll get my vote if it means keeping Mrs. Bill Clinton out of the White House.
Mrs. Bill Clinton was recently re-elected with 67% of the vote in New York. This is even more proof that "favorability ratings" mean 0 to the Democrat party.
The country has survived worse than that.
When was the last time the USA had a President and Congress who were so anti-USA? Even Warren Harding and James Buchanan still loved the USA.
Hillary will only win if she is able to pull of voter fraud of unprecedent proportions. (Of course, we are talking about Hillary, so that is a possibility.)
Mrs. Bill Clinton will also be able to win if conservatives and other Republicans decide to sit out the 2008 election because the nominee isn't perfect enough.
I can't vote for Rudy or Ronnie. Anyone else (that is currently running or said to be declaring soon) I can handle.
I can understand not supporting said people during the primaries, but in a general election, not voting for the GOP nominee is the same as voting for Mrs. Bill Clinton. As much as these 2 people don't appeal to you, they are certainly more likely to entertain some of your opinions as opposed to Mrs. Bill Clinton, who won't entertain any.
I can't see how either Rudy or Ronnie would be less of a disaster than Hillary. I would never vote for her, but as I said, I can't vote for either of them.
How can you compare a presidential-year election to a midterm election? Can you show that voter turnout remains consistent between the two yypes of elections?
It doesn't matter. The fact is fewer voters voted in 2006 and we lost the Congress as a result. The Democrats always turn out to vote Democrat. Republicans tend to stay home when we get pissed off. The result, regardless of election, are losses... major losses.
I know I was out voting and working on GOTV in 2006, even though the people whoI helped elect in '00, '02, '04 didn't do much to deserve my work.
