Break.com ^

Posted on 08/20/2007 1:21:34 PM PDT by Maceman

These guys raise an injured lion from birth and then release her into the wild. After one year they attempt to reunite with the lion and its amazing how happy the lion is to see her old friends.

No sound, but awwww.

Feel good video of the week.

“I wonder if it is all that it seems, I just can’t see that second lion coming up to humans all palsy walsy just because her mate did.”

That second lion is smaller that the released lion. Given that male lions are larger than females, I assume the second lion to be a juvenile offspring of the released lion.

Lion juveniles follow what the adults do. Not to mention the probability that the lions may have had more contact with the “rehab” chaps than was mentioned.

Amazing.....maybe since they are not caged...they remained friendly?

Post #10 has it. These guys are just plain dumb!!!!! The intent was to release the lion into the wild so it could acclimate and become wild.

The fact that she is friendly today completely belies the fact that maybe 6 months or even less from today, maybe even tomorrow, she will quite likely rip their throats out.........

This story reminds me of the moron in Alaska who thought he had become friends with the bears. In actuality, he did to the point that they even invited him and his girlfriend to dinner........

These lion guys just received a pass.........If they're smart, they won't try it again.

If you have ever read “Born Free”, Elsa would come back to the camp while her pride sat outside and waited for her. When whe was sick and dying, she came back to them.

Well, the female lion just wants to not only say “hi” but to also thanked the people who saved her life and gaved her an opportunity to have a new life in the wild. =^..^=

Head butting and face rubbing just like my housecats do when they being all lovey dovey. That video made my night! Thanks for the link. I’m now going to go smooch on my own miniature lion, the amazing Rocket J.

This is the story of Christian the Lion, and there is a book and movie about him. Read about him here. He was indeed raised by these gentlemen, who returned him to the wild but he (obviously) never forgot them- they went back to see him a year later and he recognized them. I love the lion's reaction when he realizes who they are :)

My cousin, Mary, worked in a small zoo during high school during the late 1960's. She visited a few times when her kids were small, but had not been to the zoo for about 20 years when I visited her. We took my children for a trip around 1999.

My girls ran ahead to the Rhesus monkey cage where an old dried up male was sitting on the floor. He barely looked up at us and continued to pick at the leaves on the concrete in sheer boredom. Mary came up from behind us and he glanced at her. Suddenly, he sprang up onto the cage bars. He chattered and jestered wildly at her with great excitement. She called him by his name and they stood there for a long time "talking" to each other. There was no doubt that he recognized her and was happy to see her. It was remarkable.

Kind of reminds me of a few scenes in “Second Hand Lions”. One of the best movies to hit the screens in recent years.

Ahhh, big kitty head rubs. I’m glad it’s them and not me—I’ll stick with the miniature variety.

I hope she’s not going to wait 20 years for the next visit. She should least send him a card once in a while.

Wonderful video! Truly amazing story. Just goes to show you that any animal just about is capable of very deep emotion and can feel love and will miss those he cares about and remember them no matter how much time has passed.
