Here is the bloggers (News From The Left) main argument and link:
By filing this complaint, posted below, the FEC can now proceed with action to right this injustice. According to FEC regulations, Thompson will have 15 days to respond to the complaint. Then, their lawyers will write an opinion on the basis of the complaint. It is my contention that he has violated the testing the waters exemption of election law. He has been presenting himself as a candidate for President, he has been raising large sums of money beyond what would be required to explore a possible candidacy, and he has signed a long term lease on a headquarters for his campaign. He has even spent advertising dollars, which are specifically prohibited by the law.

Lane Hudson first met former Florida Representative Mark Foley in a Washington bar in 1995. According to Hudson, Foley hit on him, unsuccessfully. He “made everyone, gay and straight, uncomfortable with his sexual advances,” Hudson says. “Mark Foley’s sleazy behavior was the worst-kept secret in Washington.” In a different world, a less wired world, that would have been the end of the story.
Now 29, Hudson is no political outsider. A lifelong Democrat from Charleston, S.C., he has worked for quite a few politicians, including John Kerry in his 2004 campaign. His feelings about what happened are complicated. “How can I not be so excited about how this turned the midterm elections?” says Hudson. He says he’s surprised by the furor he started,
Well, you can’t argue with their facts. Whether they have a case or not is a sophisticated legal judgement beyond my ability to render.
the worst part (and glossed over) is the first apperance of this story came from a queer site called “queerty.com” (alerted by google) - it’s nasty... don’t go there...
When Hudson's identity was revealed, he was fired from his job at Human Rights Campaign.
Campaign finance reform comes back to bite Thompson in the ass?
Absent that finding, a Complaint dies without even going before the Federal Election Commission itself. With such a finding, the FEC is able to act. But since the Commission is equally divided between Repubs and Dems, and must act, if it acts at all, by majority vote, I think the FEC would trash this Complaint if it gets to them.
Whether you are pro-Fred, anti-Fred, or neutral about Fred, this case is going down the dumper.

Yah. In a sane country this would not be an issue. I don’t know when we as a nation jumped the shark, but we have.
ccording to The Tennesseean, “the complaint names the Fred Thompson for President Exploratory Committee, which does not exist. Instead, Thompson formed a different kind of committee, called Friends of Fred Thompson Inc.”

Can you say “dismissed”?

Har har. And then Thompson announces. Can you say moot?
No wonder Fred would not disclose he campaign manager. I you count rumors he had 3 at different times. My apology to anyone who I debated on the subject.
Nah, just because in "testing the waters" he doesn't have to keep to the donation limits or disclose to the FEC doesn't mean he hasn;t been doing it - How do you think everybody knows he raised a only a disappointing 3.46 million?
The money is good for campaigning.
Oh, is Mrs. Clinton scared of Fred Thompson? Since her slavish pals at the ACLU are doing her dirty work.
From what all the rumors are saying Thompson is likely to announce within 15 days anyway. Then what is this fool going to do?
