The good news for U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter is that he should get plenty of exposure during the Texas Republican Straw Poll during the Labor Day weekend.
The bad news is that on Wednesday afternoon, only one newspaper reporter and one TV news crew showed up for his news conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center.

And that is the point... The RINO candidates get TONS of publicity (I call it the Drive By Media covering their bets), and throw a few attacks on Thompson because they are afraid of him.
But they are bound and determined to not give the best Repub candidate a chance at all - and I think it is intentional. He represents what the media and the whole left fear most - because he speaks the truth and doesn’t waver.
Don’t let us down TEXAS! :)

Duncan Hunter has my vote and, in my own view, is unchallenged even by the great and mysterious Fred Thompson. He is a man who actually seems to live his creed.
Hunter, to date, has done poorly in the polls because of lack of exposure. Yet Hunter has great grass roots appeal to conservatives. Is it possible that, once again, the pundits of talk radio and other venues of the right have decided that the Republican party is better served by someone who already has name recognition?
Is it possible that they have already decided who “can win”, based upon that already given name recognition? And will they, once again, sacrifice conservative principle in their choice of candidates.
If conservative media were as, uh, interested in ideas as they say they are, why would they not give the various candidates equal attention and put all the ideas on the table, identified with their proponents? Right up to the primaries?
Yet in most “big” talk radio, Hunter is virtually unmentioned. They all jump in on the Romney-Guliani-Thompson debate. The others go, well, unmentioned, except occasionally and with mirth or dismissal.
This, to me, indicates a kind of intellectual fraud.
Good. Hunter needs to be seen and recognized by more people. He has a great voting record and in my opinion would be the ideal GOP candidate for 2008. But as many have pointed out, Representatives tend not to be favored in the primaries and that is showing in the poll results (Hunter has very small percentages). But at least Fred’s up there, he would be my second choice.
Vote Conservative.
I like DH. The man is even my preference in the sea of otherwise bending broomstalks and slithering smooth talking snake den of politicians.
But the fact is I do not understand his strategy. Here in Iowa he made almost no effort and apparently spent nothing. He is the invisible candidate. He clearly did not establish an “over broken glass” band of hard core crawlers in his campaign. Does he have any charisma?
Thus far a very feeble effort from my view. Makes me wonder if he really has any interest at all in this effort, or is there some other motive/rationale to his presence, or lack of presence in this race?

Hunter has been effective, and has DONE what the other candidates SAY should be done. Hunter’s bill to build an 854 mile fence was signed into law, and Hunter built a 14 mile fence at the San Diego border already.
We grass roots folks have to try to get his name out, and together we CAN do it.
I wrote a letter to the editor, contributed to his campaign, and next, I will call a talk show(s).

This is why Hunter fails at being a household name. His staff is to blame for this.

Hunter probably needs to raise more money so he can hire better people to run his campaign, imo.
Raising money is where we come in, by contributing to his campaign.
I doubt if big biz will help him out, because Duncan Hunter doesn’t want the approximately $275 BILLION each year trade imbalance with Communist China.
The problem with the GOP is that Charisma always trumps principle. They don’t pick their candidates on principle. That’s why they don’t get conservatives in the Executive, and few in the bicameral House. And, hence, the mess that is the current USA.
I’ve always thought that what we really need is a candidate with the conservatism of Goldwater and a Hitlerian ability to captivate the masses in speech. In lieu of charisma I’ll go with conservative principle and, I believe, none of the others can hold a candle to Hunter.
Libs, on the other hand, have no principle. They absolutely have to have charisma. So they go for rich, attention whores. The GOP has followed in this practice, to their detriment.

My question to them might be....why would it be that bringing Hunter’s conservative creed to the public’s attention “sticking their necks out”? He is a breath of fresh air.
HUNTER got us ABS deployed in Alaska, and HUNTER built up the defense that Bill Clinton tore down, and got equipment and weapons to protect our troops, and our country, when he Chaired the House Armed Services Committee (when the Republicans had the majority), and HUNTER went to Iraq FIVE times, and HUNTER did some tough fighting duty in ‘Nam and won a medal, and HUNTER has a son who did two tours in Iraq, including Fallujah, and is now doing a 3rd tour in Afghanistan.

He sure is, and I wish the conservative talk show hosts would support him more.
At least Hannity, Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham had Hunter on their radio show, and I wish Rush Limbaugh would, as well.
