Residents Fear Their Guns May Be Taken Away (IL)

(URBANA)---Some people in Champaign County are afraid their guns will be taken away. That's why pro-gun advocates are trying to get a resolution passed that would promise the 2nd amendment would be protected. People say they feel Chicago and Cook County is trying to run the rest of the state of Illinois. That's because Cook County put a gun ban into effect this past February on long guns, like rifles and shotguns. The ban says people can't even have the guns in their own home. Some people in Champaign County feel that's unconstitutional, and they went to the county board meeting Thursday night to speak up before the ban moves south.

"I don't understand how one county can do that to their citizens." Says Guns Rights Advocate Valinda Rowe "Then turn around and try to do it to the rest of the state. We've got to take a stand."

They did try and take that stand as around a dozen people spoke at the meeting, urging county board members to pass a resolution, saying Cook County's ban is unconstitutional. They'll have to wait though, because the board tabled the issue.

29 counties in the state have already passed an anti-gun ban resolution, people at the meeting hope Champaign County becomes the 30th to do so.

Thank goodness the Indiana constitution guarantees the right to arms specifically for the purpose of self defense.

We’ve long since crossed the rubicon. The question remains; Will we fight, or will we submit? We’ll know the answer soon I fear.

Why? The second amendment has nothing whatsoever to do with state laws.

COOL! That means that, since state laws trump the Bill of Rights, states can write a law that does away with the First Amendment!

So STFU.

A state or local law that conflicts with the US Constitution is, uh, unconstitutional. You don’t have to be a con law scholar to understand that much.
The sheep will cave and but freepers or other patriots will pin their ears back on appeal. Go for fees too.

Why? The second amendment has nothing whatsoever to do with state laws. When I read that legal nonsense, I knew it was you before I read your name. Adios,

Am I understanding you that State laws can supersede the Constitution?

29 counties in the state have already passed an anti-gun ban resolution,

What legal power does a resolution have in Illinois??

Infringed

–verb (used with object) 1. to commit a breach or infraction of; violate or transgress: to infringe a copyright; to infringe a rule.
–verb (used without object) 2. to encroach or trespass (usually fol. by on or upon): Don't infringe on his privacy.

Its clear to me the 2nd Amendment has been infringed. I expect for Federal Courts to change the definition of the word.

Just like Mark Levin (the great one) said: “The locusts from the blue states gobble everything up and then migrate to the red states to screw them up”.

Take away Chicago and you would have a nice conservative red state.

You're probably right. One might say the same about New York (minus NYC), Michigan (minus Detroitistan), and Pennsylvania (less Philadelphia). Our cities have become havens for criminals, their poor sympathizers and wealthy appeasers. Sane people flee, leaving an increased concentration of looters behind. I still hold out hope that we can recover, but it's a tenuous one.

"Its clear to me the 2nd Amendment has been infringed. I expect for Federal Courts to change the definition of the word".

They did that when the took the right of convicted felons to keep and bare arms. Without a Constitutional Amendment, that is indeed an infringement

Flame suite on

If you take away Chicago you would have a thriving rural state with a agricultural based economy. But not rich. I wouldn’t say poor either. Cook County is a cash cow:

Well that must mean they have a zero crime rate .......:o)

Or did they send this little memo to the criminals ?

I don’t vacation in Illinois
I don’t knowingly buy products from Illinois Companies
I don’t drive thru Illinois, I drive around it
I don’t invest in companies based in Illinois

Illinois like California, Maryland etc are beautiful states yet they have politics and laws that are equal too or worse than Cold War era Sino Soviet Nations IMHO.....

To both of the good people left in Illinois .......if ya can’t vote this seditious socialist trash back to the curb then get out and let em self destruct.

Vote with your dollars !

I have watched your controversial postings relating to the Second Amendment of the United States, and I do not agree with you. I DO understand the logic you are attempting to convey, just as I DO understand the logic of the minority population of "gun-grabbers" of which I believe you are on their side. I looked up the Illinois Consitution and found this:
Sec. 22. Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
This tells me that the Government of the State of Illinois granted themselves the power to be a "police state" and deny the population their inalienable rights.

How do you read it?
Please note the tag line of a Patriot

Stating that Criminals will always have the guns because they are Criminals never works with gun grabbers.

Does the 2nd amendment mean anything anymore?
